Carfax is not a sure thing. I had a serious accident when a lady rammed my SLK32. 18K worth of damage and it never showed up on carfax.
The best way is the way you already suggested. Have them do a PPI at the local Porsche dealer.

Go check with some Porsche dealers in your area and see what they have under their CPO program. Unless I knew the owner I would have a hard time buying from a private party. Parts and labor too $$$ at stake to make a hasty decision.

If he really wanted to sell the car, couldn't he go to any dealership and offer a cash sale? Even with the crappy economy, any dealer would be insane not to take the car (assuming its in good condition) for 10k under blue book.

i knew it had to be a scam but was suprised how much info he gave me, name, address, vin and offered to let my friend come and check it out at his address

they make these scam sites under these huge corporation names, like EbayFinancial.com and it would look legit but then BAM u get scammed
