911 Turbo...is it an EXOTIC?
A recent thread on another forum I frequent got me wondering... Is the 911 Turbo considered an exotic car? Obviously Ferraris and Lamborghinis qualify for the moniker, but what about 911 Turbos? Not necessarily just the 996, but all Turbos... I don't think the standard Carrera would qualify, but what does 6-speed say about our beloved beasts?
And, if you want, tell what you consider as the criteria for being labeled and exotic

*almost* I'd vote a 993 turbo was, but they sold too bloody many 996's to keep in the exotic category.
I'd say a GT2 was more of an exotic than the 996tt. However, I can't qualify a base 996tt as one. I passed/saw 3 turbos yesterday on my 3 mile commute to work...

I think its on the edge but the 996tt doesn't qualify as one, cost and ease to purchase knock it out. However, I have yet to see one 997tt in person on the road here. So from my perspective I would believe it deserves consideration as one.

Depends who you ask. First time I test drove a 911 the adrenaline was pumping. Not so w/ a vette.

No chance.
In my opinion! (important fact).
An exotic car is a work of art, something absolutely stunning. But, a pain in the *** to drive. To me? An exotic is something that you lust after, but you end up giving something up to drive it. The true exotics are getting rarer and rarer.
What is an exotic to me?
Enzo, LP640, Countach (or anything old, and Italian). A murcielago feels like it is about 60 feet wide in traffic. Anything behind you may as well be invisible because you will NOT be able to see it.
If almost anyone could get into the car, and drive it to the store. It isn't an exotic car.
A Gallardo? To me, i guess it is a hyper sports car. Anyone can drive them. The LP560-4 even moreso. I swear in automatic mode with the exhaust out of sport, you may as well be driving a camry. Quiet, easy to drive. Decent visibility.
A 996tt? Without any doubt isa hyper sports car. They drive like pussycats if you want to, but become a different animal when you do push that right pedal.
Again, just my opinion. Not that they aren't fantstic cars, but they are incredibly easy to drive.

I would define exotic by the rarity of the vehicle, likewise, where you live plays a big factor. Somewhere like miami or socal where they're more 'common' I would not consider them to be exotic.
Now somewhere like North Dakota...that may be a different story.

I often refer to my 996TT as a "working man's exotic" but I don't think it's a real exotic. Truth be told, I'd probably place a 996 GT2 in the exotic category though, due to its comparative rarity and less daily driver friendly aura.
