"We want to show that we can deliver a high-powered naturally aspirated engine,’ Audi engine boss, Wolfgang Hatz, told Autocar’s German sister publication auto motor und sport."

Newest rumors indicate a normally aspirated 420-HP 4.2L V8.

Assuming they also keep the S4 for the next generation, it seems pretty stupid to have a 4.2 N/A in both that and the RS4, even with ~ 80 hp difference. I would be happy with the RS6 motor in a new RS4. But then RS6 numbers would have to be ridiculous, well more ridiculous than the 500hp E60 M5 of course

The next RS6 is supposed to have a V10 (which it really would have to, to compete with the M5). Audi can easily get a V10 from the Gallardo.

I do agree with you about the NA V8 - seems silly to me, too.

Cosworth built the 4.2 in the B6 S4. I'm pretty sure they're the ones who are making the engine for the RS4.
