Tial-can you educate us all on the various "28" turbos? My understanding is that there was a GT28 Hybrid (mated to a K16 hotside) for Evo, then there are standard GT28's that don't bolt on to Porsches unless adapted. Then there was a Journal Bearing vs. Ball Bearing evolution-both are still sold I understand. Then I understand that you built a new SS housing to that would bolt on to Porsches and sold it exclusively through Evo for roughly a year. Once that exclusive was released, the turbos hit the open market (recently) and they've been rebranded the Alpha series? Were other mods done to them as well? What's the evolution? It seems as if the latest and greatest are really the hot setup (A28's) these days offering quick spool and equal or greater than top end potential to a 24/18 hybrid...

What about the differences between 2860's and 2871's?

My mind is boggled trying to figure out what is out there. I think it would serve everybody (including Tial and it's tuning partners) to share the story and evolution so that we can purchase the best possible solution for our needs... The secrecy and guessing game gets old. Educated consumers purchase more freely!

What's the scoop????

Thanks in advance!

Banjo Boy,

I have been listening to this sad tired lament for nearly a year and a half!!

Get a decent verified time and prove that that 5 lengths walking I gave Tweety was an exception, not the rule.

Until then I have composed a song: To the tune of Dueling Banjoes

Da duh doon doon doon doon doon doon doon

Paulie (squeeling like a pig): "But it was hot."

Da doon doon dooon doon doon da

"But I was on pump"

Doon doon doon doon da doon da doon...

Very good questions Kato. Your understanding of the evolution of these turbos is close to mine, but my understanding is that these newer "alpha" series turbos are different and improved from any previous version of the same name. But maybe I just think that because I want them to be that way since I bought them.

Privacy for sake of competitive reasons is understandable, but I, like you, would like to have some more details without anyone giving up trade secrets....

I have asked Tial to do the exact thing you are asking, but the guy flaked over and over again.

As great as the product is, they could really do a better job of explaining and marketing it.

My understating is that the difference between a 60 and 71 is that the 71 has a larger compressor (cold side). Think K24/18g vs K24/20g

IMO, tuners can only tell you the advantage of their products. I have a feeling that they are prohibited to compare their products with others due to some agreements on this board. So, you really have to do your own research.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I may not know exactly what is different from these newer alpha turbos, but I have never seen any other version of the GT28 or older alpha turbos put up a dyno curve that resembled anything close to this. And this is what got me to buy, along with Tony's recommendation. But he did say I would be happy with k24/18g also, FYI, so the choice was ultimately mine. I mean, is this dyno perfect for a street car or what? (he's got a few more mods than I do but the same identical turbos)

Yeah I hope my graph looks something like that when I get dynoed eventually. I need some other supporting mods tho... might do meth at some point.

not sure everyone agrees with that statement but.......

race or gas or not, I still haven't seen any other 28-based turbos with that kind of dyno curve.

It's just nice you don't have to spend $15k+ to get this kind of power anymore.

don't get me wrong, I like the idea and would like to do it myself, anytime you can run 1.4-1.5 bar of boost, you are on race file mode.
