Pulling the car on a trailer

Hello, I see sometimes random threads on here soliciting advice and thought I would tap the general masses for some wisdom. I am about to move from WA state to Jax florida and will be pulling my car on a Uhaul trailer behind my lifted truck. I plan on placing some blue painters tape on the headlight covers and mirrors and maybe the door handles. I would like to protect my car as much as possible and I am looking for any transport tips that you guys may have that I havent thought of. Obviously I will not buy an enclosed trailer which would be best, but I have no place to store such a trailer once I arrive in J-ville, so it makes owning such a trailer not worth the investment. So you track and towing experts please chime in, thanks.

What about a car cover? Otherwise I would also tape the inlets for the intercoolers in addition to what you said as they are just about the widest points beside the mirrors

Thanks for the tidbit on the IC's openings, I didnt think about that. As far as the car cover goes, I have heard that they can chafe and rub the paint over a long trip.

Don't put a car cover on it, the thing will beat your paint to death on a 3k mile journey. Best is always enclosed, but if you're going to use one of the U-Haul trailers, make sure to cover the nose, headlights, mirrors, and since your truck is lifted, I would say the windshield and the first 3-4" of the roofline along the windshield. Everything from there should be fine. Invest in some GOOD tie downs as the ones U-Haul provide suck and the last thing you want is your car coming lose on you.

Purchase brand new straps (dont ask me how I know).
Minimum 2" wide (3300 lbs capacity each).
Use a minimum of 4 straps and go in X patter.
from behind the car go in front of rear wheels to hole in subframe at jacking point
from in front of car go behind front wheels to hole in subframe at jacking point
Do a fifth strap if possible around (1) wheel.
This works for all 996/997 cars including cup cars.
Make SURE you have several wraps of strap around the ratchet loop which gives it
its holding power.
You can buy Spray on protection for front of car and mirrors, otherwise 3M painters tape with Duct tape over the painters tape.

Good luck

Marty

with a 9" lift, i presume you have substantial rubber under your silverado. perhaps a small investment in some temporarily installed and commensurately large mudflaps would be less expensive than a small rock chip in the windshield however unsightly it may seem during the haul.

I agree about the mud flaps, I personally dont like them but the state of WA has taken care of what I want and they forced me to get some rather large state mandated mud flaps, so I am covered there. Lots of good advice and alot of stuff I actually didnt consider so i am glad I asked this question.

This tape won't leave any goo or harm the paint.
