WIW - 2002 996 TT x50 Aero, Tip 25K miles?
Hi,
Looking for thoughts on what this car is worth (WIW) ---
2002 996 TT with Aero Kit, Tiptronic, X50, Full Black Leather then some odds and ends options...MSRP was around $160K...
Silver with about 25K miles.
Asking price is $55K
Any thoughts are welcome...
Thanks!
Paul

I paid $54K for my similarly equipped 04 (x50, tip). No Aero.
Higher mileage (50K), but 2 years newer. This was also last December and prices have dropped.
I think it is a mid-40's car.

Just paid $45k for a 2003 Silver/Blue X50 Tip with 28,500 miles. Closed on deal the end of June.

45-47k is a good start- if the condition is exceptional, and you are the original owner (or maybe second) with outstanding records you can be firmer in holding the line. No records, many owners and you are moving into 'just another 2002' pricing...

Hehe not trying to knock tip's, the market is what it is - when I was looking I kept seeing great deals and getting excited but they were all tips - the market for tips just seems to be $5k+ less than for 6 speeds right now.

Ignorance. That's all.

the seller is in control
i have an 02 X50 with 14k miles in mint condition for sale. It also has 15K in performance suspension, headers, exhaust, and wheels. I have had numerous offers in the 55s but I am not willing to sell at that. I dont think buyers properly value X50. So it depends on how desparate your seller is.

$55K feels pretty good for your car, but if you don't think so, it's your right to keep it

Perhaps it is semantics, but "market value" is defined as what cars sell for.... a car priced at a point where it doesnt sell is, in actual fact, NOT priced at market.
Of course there is a bit of spread, and variance in prices around the market value- it isn't 'one number'. Buyers will move up, sellers will move down, deals will get made. Over time the average 'deal point' defines the market trend.
On a personal level, a seller may highly value his car-if no buyer values it that highly, it wont sell, but the buyer isn't 'wrong'. (Some lowballers may be wrong! )
And to the comments about X50 value- back in 'the day', the only option for people wanting to upgrade a new 2002 TT was to get one with the K24 turbos. NOW, tuners have packages at 50% of the price of the X50 that will destroy a stock X50- with better driveability and the same durability.
The only value an X50 has is for someone with a deeply held personal aversion to any mods whatsoever- this is then the perfect "porsche factory mod" solution. But I suspect this buyer would want it all stock.
Of course the perfect place to be in a crappy market is- not in the market! Not having to, or wanting to, sell is a good place to be...
