HELP: Advice for Trailering my 996TT

Hey guys I am wondering if any one has any advice for trailering a 996 Turbo. I’ll be trailering my 996TT from my home in Houston, TX to Santa Fe, NM and I'm just wondering if there are any tips as to where I should connect tie downs to the vehicle. As of right now I’m renting a Uhaul trailer and will be using my Dad’s Denali to do the towing. I've seen a few other threads discussing how a GT3 can be correctly secured, but couldn't find any for the Turbo.

Thanks in advance, JC.

just one...don't leave it in gear...put it in neutral and use the e-brake...you should be able to get tire cinches and snug down all four wheels...that will hold it

Cinching down the 4 wheels won't mess with the alignment at all? I've seen some connecting brackets mounted on the bottom of 7.1 GT3s and I'm wondering if these are necessary for my car.

I've done it through the wheels every time and it's never messed with an alignment one bit. Otherwise you can buy the things that screw into the jack points and use those to tie down. I forget who sells them.

Don't think there is any other option.

996twin_sc is infamous around these parts
I used a uhaul before with no issues. Just make sure the trailer tires have the correct PSI and add some PSI to your tow vehicle (rear tires). I tied down all four wheels to the trailer with zero alignment issues.

Better safe than sorry

Better safe than sorry, clinching all four wheels seems like a great idea.

check this thread out, I just pulled my car 3600 miles, I didnt but any painters tape on the windshield and I got a rock chip and when I backed the car off the trailer the car flexed enough that the windshield cracked, so if I were to do it again I would cover the windshield. https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...r-trailer.html Hopefully this helps.

Purchase brand new straps (dont ask me how I know).
Minimum 2" wide (3300 lbs capacity each).
Use a minimum of 4 straps and go in X patter.
from behind the car go in front of rear wheels to hole in subframe at jacking point
from in front of car go behind front wheels to hole in subframe at jacking point
Do a fifth strap if possible around (1) wheel.
This works for all 996/997 cars including cup cars.
Make SURE you have several wraps of strap around the ratchet loop which gives it
its holding power.
You can buy Spray on protection for front of car and mirrors, otherwise 3M painters tape with Duct tape over the painters tape.

Good luck

Marty

This is a very helpful thread. I'm thinking of towing my car up to Washington in a few weeks.

I bought these tie down hooks from Autometrics Motorsports for $80.
They work great.
