EVAP Readiness code unable to set

I've read the info in the 993 section on the drive cycle requirements for the 993. Can anyone share any detailed info related to the 996 (2003 turbo)?

Background:

Bought car on Tuesday. Battery tested weak in PPI.

Put a new battery in the car on Wednesday morning (car had not been driven before the replacement so coolant temp was ambient). Started car. Drove approximately 40miles under different conditions. All emissions readiness codes were set except for EVAP.

Did some internet research and couldn't find anything specific to the 996 drive cycle. Generic OBD2 info seemed to believe that if i waited overnight (for coolant temp to become ambient), started car, idled for 2min and 10 secs, then the EVAP test would trigger and I would be okay.

Well, I did the above but still 'not ready' on EVAP. Getting a bit nervous driving around without tags.

Any thoughts?

A couple of things…you are looking for this to set for emissions testing I assume?

Check into how many “not sets” you can have based on year. I forget but on the 01, it was either 1 or 2 “not ready” and it would still pass. As for the tags issue, typically the DMV gives you a card that says you need emission done within 10 days of you registering, etc. So you have time there…

Lastly, I found to have all parameters set, it took me about 100 miles…

Hope this helps.

Any pending evap codes?

The 996tt is just like your S4....the evap test will automatically run if the car is moving or not. You dont have to worry about driving it anymore, just start the car and let it sit for a while (10 minutes), scan it....if it doesnt set just repeat untill it does.

No pending EVAP codes. Thanks for the reply Tony. I still need to get a hold of you on some other stuff that's more fun than emissions testing:-)

If there's no pending codes, chances are it just needs more run time to set up.

Give me a call when you're ready =). We'd love to help you out!
