Canada the home of the Taxes

Hi Kwork...you guys are lucky to be in the US. Things are way cheaper down there! Buying a new Porsche is about 20% more on the MSRP not to mention that's all before the money exchange and our 13% sales tax and the 3% additional luxury car tax.

Let me share with 6speed guys the BS we have to put up with in Canada.

My PSS10 story....... By speedyellow993

$2800 PSS10s back a little while
$250 Shipping & insurance
$364 Canada Customs Tax
$60. Brokerage Fee
$30. Some UPS BS fee!
$1500 install and alignment(camber&toes too)
(not a Mickey mouse lowering spring job)

welcome to Canada!

  • Alignment (to factory spec or your own, with rolling check and driver add in if specified) = $175
  • Pads = $475
  • Exhaust = the less restrictive the unit is the earlier the turbo are able to spool and respond to gas input. So for this track specific route you should utilize an exhaust that will offer less than factory back pressure or none at all. In this case I'm having a custom straight pipe set built for me that goes from turbo hot side straight out into 3 or 4 inch pipes. I have been quoted $650 for this work from a local fabricator. I also have a fancy after market exhaust with cats for emissions which will run you $3500 but its less impressive on track.
  • CHIP / Flash / Tune = YES and NO ... I know its more power and everyone loves that but its not going to better a new driver in anyway in fact it will make you less aware of what your doing. New Flash to take advantage of the exhaust? Not very necessary as the stock ecu is programmed to achieve best spool based on physically mechanical things so your free flowing exhaust will give you the spool you want without ECU flash. If you are HP hungry then go for it but it will put more stress on the engine without benefit of race craft.
  • Brake fluid change to motul 600 = good idea if your fading on track but I'v been good with factory spec unless I am over 45min on track at one single time. I have motul 600 in my track car and its solid.

That should give you more than enough. (suspension is a detailed topic so lets say pss10's are great from factory spec. because if we get into deep discussion its all based on tires and LBS of aero your running)

There is no way Cayman S ran 1:13 on tsukuba! A stock S2000 from 2000 runs faster.

S2000 1:07.2 at Tsukiba

S2000 at hockenheim short did 1:18.2

there will always be variation. not everyone can run a fast time, hence why I posted for different tracks.

Funny how I post facts and someone has an issue with one of them, but another makes a statement with no proof, and that's ok

Did you not read what I posted. The cayman beat the S2000 on the other track. So likely a bad driver on the Caymans part. Now how about you waste some energy calling people who provide no proof...HUH!!!!

I'm relating the video to your original tsukuba claim for the cayman S of 1:13.50 and this video has time attack listed at the very end stating 1:08:3 for the Cayman S on tsukuba. Clearly showing your times to be faulty for the Cayman S. If this is the case who knows how you got the rest of the numbers. The s2k time was 1:08:6. again more realistic and proof of your ill found numbers.

Again, you obviously have some reason for questioning only one side. what is it exactly? you did not question the other guy at all, so you have some agenda.

I checked this website and you forgot to mention a very important variable called, RAIN! Cayman S did tsukuba in the rain at 1:13 ... since you originally did not include this information I was shocked that it could be so slow.

Its not about how fast the cars lap time is. I'm sure that Kwerks and Mike Kelly can kill my lap times in my 996tta with a bone stock Miata on the track. Apples need to be compared to apples. I lap the track for fun not for a better lap time. With experience I have become faster but I am not willing to push to the point where crashing is a high probability.

If lap times where everything then we would all be driving Dodge Vipers !!!!!! barf barf !!!

WTF? give me a break. I gave 4 different tracks, one which was in error due to being wet. you give no proof of your claim. So I ask you now to prove what you said. Show me the proof and we are good. Until then the only facts here are mine.

Getting back to the original post: 996TT vs Cayman S.
Owning both cars, I can tell you without a shadow of doubt, the 996TT is my hands down winner! (reference street, not track use) It's not just the huge power difference, it's just about everything else. Drive the 996TT and it fits like a glove, you get the feeling it was made just for you. The Cayman is a step down, after all it stickers for about half. The Cayman's seat is not nearly as comfortable, fewer adjustments (yes I have the optional dual power seats), the right side of the drivers footwell is angled in, uncomfortable on longer trips. There's a significant blind spot at 4 O'clock, as well as a much rougher ride due to the weight difference. The radio is average at best. The Cayman's power band is linear with no lag, but it never increases your heart rate. Choose the Cayman S only if you are quite sure your friends will never own a 996TT.

Prche951, come on...don't be like that.....we are not here to upset anyone.

I'm sure the reason why the other guys are all over you is because you threw in a wet lap time ( not cool) and you are always driving other peoples cars not your own. Not to mention that your handle is a 951 which doesn't really buy you any credibility on a 996TT forum. Try to read the original post and you will see it was not asking what car can do faster lap times.

These are all passionate personal experiences and opinions. Why does everyone need to prove something in statistics?

If driving was all about stats we car nuts would all be driving Z06 and Vipers !!!!
