'04 996tt vs '09 cayman s
what would you pick? i have a hard time deciding between the two. I like the look of the cayman and the trunk, but the 911 just looks ok and much more powerful. Wonder which would win/more fun on the track? say base 04 996tt vs base 09 cayman s. Thanks

Cayman is 50% more fun to drive. Sometimes it's not all about power. I would confidently say that about 90% of good drivers can do better lap times in the Cayman. The 996tt has better snob appeal but requires about $5000 in suspension upgrade to make it fun.

Well having owned an 06' Cayman S and now own a 04' 996tt with double the power I would say it depends on what you want as far as driving experience and what your skill level is.

If you are buying it for a track car, buy the cayman. The mid engine layout is fantastic and lends itself very well for track use.
If you are buying it for street/track use, drive both at length and make your decision.
If its primarily a street car, buy the 996tt .

We have both. 01 996tt and an 07 cayman s.
Whenever we go anywhere, the cayman stays home.
I've driven the cayman long distance and it is miserable compared to the 996tt. On the road the turbo is telepathic, it accellerates like nothing else and it handles mountain passes like they were flat.
In fact yesterday we were driving thru Yellowstone park and went over the Mt. Washburn pass at ~10,000 ft elevation and the turbo was just gobbling up the road...there really is nothing like it.
An hour or two later we drove the Hebgen lake loop and found many reasonable stretches for 150+mph runs.
The cayman is a good chick car...my wife likes hers, but she insists on the turbo whenever we hit the road.

Dude- if you dont really want a 911; you will never be happy with it!!
To be honest- if you are even asking should you get a Cayman. It's much more driver friendly, better for the track, less cost, more storage capacity, better dynamics, etc.. The only major 911 positive that I can see is that the 911 has more power and thus straight line speed/accel. The back seats are nice for duffle bags- that's about it.
The 911 is for people that want a 911!
