sorry to tell you but you're gonna need a door latch on that door. they have an inner switch in the latch that goes bad. i've replaced a couple of them for that issue. oops. did not know it was on a 997. i've done it on 996 but it's probably the same or could be your door module.

You can found this switch on the net. No need to replace the complete assembly see link: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index..._1#entry172003

So I just DIY'd the "Window won't lower to shut the door but the rest of the window works fine" problem.

I initially searched the boards to find out how to remove the door panel. Fairly easy but don't follow the boxter links as 996 has a different door panel.

Confirmed the microswitch was broken on the door latch (the two other microswitches are located on the each of the handles). This took me about two hours (1 hour to remove the door and 1 hour to remove the door latch and confirm)

Ordered the part from a board sponsor: See rennlist discussion below:

I just had this exact issue with my car. The window would drop but it would pop back up when the door was opened. I suspected the problem might be the window regulator but is wasn't. Turned out to be a microswitch had failed in the door lock motor. The whole lock motor had to be replaced. Dealer installed:

Part number: 8N1-837-015-C "Drivers Door Lock Motor" $216.00

I didn't want to attempt a DIY on this. With labor it cost $406 at the dealer. It's fixed and working fine now.

Replaced the door lock in about 1 hour after the part arrived. Didn't take pics but can walk anyone through the process its that straightforward. Door works like new.
