it gets even better. no more than an hour after my post yesterday, i went to turn the key. zip, zilch, nada. immediately call porsche roadside @ 1 PM on a three day weekend, and ask for a jump/flatbed knowing i've got about 2 hors to make it to the d'ship which while open on saturdays, doesn't want to see much more of me, under ANY circumstances given my recent multiple trips resulting in over 10K of "covered" warranty work ( the 2nd gear stuff )..

now, while i realize on my own, it's a dead battery, and tried to jump it with my trusty 335, nothing, engine wont even turn over..so along with a fully discharged battery i'm of course thinking what with the scorching recent heat, maybe it's an alternator, ignition switch, wtf knows? guy jumps my car using every battery he's got on the truck simulataneously, i drive the the 20 miles praying i don't stall for the first time ever.

i get to my d'ship, walk in .. my reg service advisor who happens to be there tells me, it's $290.00!!? to replace the battery ( not an OEM mind you, but some POS interstate replacement as was in the car when i bought it !)..

goes on to tell me, that the battery is over 2 years old, and therefore NOT covered under warranty, and i say, "hey, wait a minute, this battery hasn't been in THIS car for two years!? look at it! no corrosion no nothing". he tells me it was and bought by the previous owner, i'm smelling more BS, but went to the dealer in case it was not just the battery, but something,.. alternator, who knows..and that's why i bought the warranty!

i immediately begin searching for the date/serial number of the battery, they replaced it probably while the car was being readied for sale a few months ago..

service tech overhears me saying well, "i'm taking the "old" battery with me, as i haven't grown a pair of **** since i drove up" and know i'm getting the usual "let's test the dipsh*t customer" routine..

service tech tells parts manager, who confers with my service advisor, who all know by now, i may be "stuck" there and need THEM to put in a $165.00 battery for $290.00!! but i ain't going down without a fight, and suddenly..

my battery is replaced under warranty, and put in my car total out the door $70.00 "labor" ( for the 5 min's it took to install ) and a $20.00 handshake as i was leaving.

what the moral is? i'm not sure. again, it all goes back to what they say FIRST, and if ANYONE accepts that!? you're f*cked.

now, i don't know if the battery really was 2.5 yrs old, all i know is it was new when i bought the car 6 mo's ago, and probably sat on the shelf in parts! for a couple years! all i do know is how my $290.00 was gonna get "split up" if i didn't end up making noise! cos they're just gonna make interstate eat that sh*t battery

dealers and warranties. a slippery slope, at the least. so far though, i'm way ahead of the game, but i'm begininng to push my luck withy these guys, of that i'm sure... did they do the "right thing"?! yeah.. but did they begin though with a $290.00 "estimate"?! they sure as hell did.

what i really wanna know is.. why couldn't i get an OEM replacement?! this thing's 3/4 the size of the OEM, and all that stuff that runs after shutdown, fans/alarms/sensors etc. whatever, one more thing to be aware of.

the good news is got my sunday drive coming...right.. now.

Holy Hijack....

OP- Please do not believe what you read about this "precious, thorough and complete CPO Inspection and Certification".... YOU may think that the clean out leaves (for example) but that is NOT on the CPO checklist! Stop thinking that the CPO is some kind of magical and complete 'refurbishing to factory conditions'... it is simply a quick inspection, good tires and brakes, minimum service up to date, no dents. Period.

i had the inafamous 2nd gear popout issue occur shortly after i bought the car at 27k mi.. the details of which i have posted ad nauseum here, so without retelling/boring anyone else, suffice it to say that after they replaced my 1st/2nd gears and synchro covered under the pcna warranty. they had to drop the engine a 2nd time to repair a leak which they told me was not the rms. the work at dealers prices would well have been $10k had they been passed along to me. as it was covered by pcna, the "costs" were magically reduced by at least 40 or 50 %. but all in all, i can't say a bad word about the dealer OR pcna's handling of it. they've treated me like the best customer they've got, which speaks volumes given i bought a car that was 8 yrs old and didn't cough up the original $143k! all things considered, i'm way ahead of the "game" but care not to push my luck.. or the car, sad to say. at least until the warranty expires.
