Porsche Ceramic Brakes

Just took delivery of a 2005 TT Cab and when hot (in town stop and go traffic) the brakes make a sound like a dump truck in heat. The sound is loud enough to turn heads at the bus stop. Porsche tells me that this is "normal" for these brakes. Anybody got some experience with this?

Is it sort of like a metal grating noise that sounds very unnatural?

Sometimes the brakes make noise when they get dusty, let the brakes cool down then hose them especially in the holes, drive it around and if the sound persists take it back to the dealer.

that is weird. i hear all this and porsche's "normal" response and i just can't understand why after POUNDING the ceramic brakes (clean/dirty, wet/dry, etc) on my stradale for the whole 1k+ miles i've had it, they've never made a peep.

I agree with Arling -- it's not normal. My GT2 never made any "bad" braking noises. A friend did have a strange noise coming from the rear of his GT2 under braking (a deep groaning sound), and it turned out to be a bad PCCB rear rotor (inside rotor surface was cracked -- car needed to be inspected on the lift to see the rotor damage). It was replaced under warranty.

Any reason Porsche doesn't use these pads? I thought it was insufficient cooling with 996s and the ceramics which is supposedly addressed with 997 engineering.

hahaha collin.

if it was up to me, i would stick with steel, as i did on my GT3

on the TT-S they are standard... nothin you can do

im currently researching if the second generation PCCBs (which are reportedly a huge improvement), as fitted to the 997s, are retrofittable to the 996's

very confusing indeed. surposely the comfort one is P90-2. sport one is P40-1. track one is P91. i'm pretty sure the number except the track use one. anyway, recent test done by us the sport doesn't make the ''normal'' noise like the comfort pad... isn't it confusing??
