rattle at idle LWFW need some opinions

your flywheel might be great but lets go to LMP and go for a run n see whos car works better frankster =)

Yes. I have the "marbles in a coffee can " sound at idle with the clutch released, and that same sound can be heard up to about 2000-2500 RPM under easier accelerations.

sorry semi off topic...
New to P's and confused. Have had LWFWs before and they only make that marbles in tin can noise when the clutch pedal is pressed to the floor, for all gears. But if I understand correctly, the 996tt LWFWs do this while clutch pedal is in up position, gear in neutral?

hope it's not as loud as what Im used to with past cars, the neighbors are going to love it when the car's warming up every morning... my left calf is finally going to be proportionate to the right.
why is that? not why it makes the noise, but why the difference to what i've experienced with japanese cars. (just let me know if i should start a new topic)thanks.

No idea why...but I can tell you exactly what it sounds like. Jump into any diesel sportfishing boat and fire the CATS/MANS/MTUS up. With the boat idling in neutral......there you have it. And I mean exactly.

yup, diesel is a good way to describe it. If you have ever heard a Ducatti, that clacking sound it makes is exactly like the lwfw. once you are rolling you don't hear it much. My exhaust is fairly loud so I don't hear it anyway

I ride my buddy's 916 once in a while and I always think I ran it out of oil!!!
#39
well if the engine shuts down and locks the rear wheel on you, then you are correct

That's a very good comparison. I'd like to know why some lwfw are annoyingly loud and some are very quiet. Does anyone know what component is to blame for all the ruckus? I guess I got lucky, mine is extremely quiet.

I believe the DMFW dampens the transmission gears and other driveline noise. It just provides some inertia. (I personally think that I lose more boost now between shifts with the LWFW vs the DMFW). Some LWFW's are heavier than others. Some are 8-9lbs, some are 12-13lbs and I think there is one a little heavier, all versus the stock 31lbs.

I've got about 4000 miles on my ATS triple carbon.
