rattle at idle LWFW need some opinions
I have a LWFW that was installed by a previous owner, at idle the car rattles metal to metal louder then my fab speed exhaust. touch the clutch n its gone.
so before i drop my transmission to replace an input shaft bearing which i dont think it is, id like to hear from some of you that have LWFW setups
my receipt says Single Mass Flywheel HD clutch price 2200$ so i assume its a GT steel flywheel maybe similar to kevins kit.
so can anyone describe your rattle at idle n does it go away when u touch the pedal ever so slightly just enough to pressurize the slave n take the slack out?
thanks in advance, is there anyway to silence this annoying *** rattle by slave cylinder adjustment or anything short of changing clutches?

thanks for the input guys, not worth dropping the tranny to repalce a perfectly good clutch to make the noise go away i am curious if i can adjus the slave cylinder to give it just enough pressure to silence it though. im sure it might shorten my clutch life possibly letting it slip though

Just comes with the territory unfortunately. At the next event you can compare to mine to see if its dramatically worse.

I don't know if any 996TT have tried this, but I noticed in my 997TT, when the sport chrono function is activated my Aasco LWFW stops rattling at idle completely. When the button is activated, the timing and throttle change...I wonder if any tuners can program a similar change to the ECU on the 996TT. The rattle will only come back if I turn off sports chrono or turn on the A/C.
Just a thought...

Kevin at UMW has a LWFW code to take care of things....not sure about the noise going away, but code is there for optimization of the car with the unit in place.
He is guru. I'd just call him and discuss...it may be his unit in your car for all you know.

+1, having the LWFW is good, having the DME code optimized for it is excellent!
Like everyone else here has said, there will be a little rattle at idle, however the benefit to noise ratio greatly outweighs any noise at idle with the clutch out.

Yup... mine rattles too. I've gotten a few funny looks at lights when people thought my car was "broken"

yea i get that too, but at first i didn't know i had a LWFW on the bill it said HD clutch kit on one side on the other it says single mass flywheel completely over looked it till i started researching this noise.
by code u mean updating the DME's flash like a tune? to up the idle n stop the cars stalling at lights?

Like everyone says, you either learn to live with it or you hate it. There is nothing bad about it except the noise...I don't even notice mine unless I am in my garage with the window open and I still have the car running and I push the clutch in...
