$1k question: Coilovers vs. Aftermarket Springs + Shocks
I have been debating this for a few months now...just never come close to a conclusion.
My goal is really just to drop my car to give it a lower stance, rather than any real handling improvement, icing on the cake type of deal to me. So just looking at my options straightly from cost perspective, it sounds like aftermarket springs + shocks will achieve my goal. I mentioned shocks only because my stock shocks are 6 years old after all (w/ 30k mi)...might as well change it while at it.
Then I found that most forum members who have done suspension upgrade definitely vote for coilovers. While I might take my car to the track once a year and it is purely a weekender, will I ever get the benefits of coilovers if I never adjust height or firmness?
I guess there is at least $1k difference here...so a $1k question so to speak.
Thanks all!!

There is a night and day difference between the 2 set ups. I know more than a dozen people who went the spring route and then after a short while changed to coilovers. I would be looking for a good used set of bilsteins. They have a life time warranty so if you blow a shock they will replace it.

Just got my pss10 installed.
Unbelievable!
Set at 5/5 and feels very smooth over bumps. Definitely not too rough for the wife.
Feels much more planted and safer on corners and bumps.
I love my car now.

Thanks guys...somehow, when I started this thread, I already feel like I am just asking for some forum support over here...come on, not one person wants to surprise me over here?! Looks like this is some $$ I can't save.

Its really a $1 question at most... coilover all the way... I had PSS9 and hated them... I like low cars so it didn't match my needs. Do you research before you decide on the coilover you want. PSS9's might be great for some but not for all...
Good luck!

how much adjustment in the ride height did you experience? I am thinking of going the same route.

What? You want to change springs AND shocks as opposed to just getting coilovers?
If you were just doing springs, I'd follow you, but both is a no go. Get the coilovers. If you might as well change shocks, you might as well get coilovers.

^^ Agreed. If you were just getting springs and using your stock shocks, I'd say get springs. But since you're going to be replacing the shocks too, I'd vote for coilovers. You'll be surprised how quickly a spring/shock combo can get close to the price of a decent set of coilovers. We've had great experience with Bilstein and KW.
