Just Purchased Some Mobil 1 5w-50

I cannot remember who to give credit to for this. I searched for the website on this forum and could not find it here. I may have got it from another site. Anyway I just got 6 cases of Mobil 1 5w-50 that I ordered 2 days ago. Great service fast shipment.

Thought I would share it. Again I do not deserve credit for finding this source, but I hope it helps others.

I also want to change to a 50 oil. Your guy's comments on the vario cam actuators requiring a 40 oil? thanks

Temps are hot here. all the performance forced induction cars i know of are on 50 or higher. Been trying to contact the dealer mech to get his opinion.

In Japan the dealer fill is 5w50. Guess Hong Kong won't be that much different?

BTW I'm from Hong Kong (living in Tokyo for now). Nice collection of cars you have there, must be nice to run them early sunday morning in NT.

hi! i've always wanted to live in Japan for the car culture. at the time part of my motivation to move from the US to HK was to get a nissan GTR... haha. Yes NT SMD's are still going on but the oinkers are clamping down. You should PM me next time you're in town.

I suspect the local P. dealer tech will tell me similar. Oil temps are a problem for many performance cars here.

My tuner taught me for engines that either by nature (high compression) or run hot, or "loose" (by wear and tear) etc for whatever reasons combustion gases are entering the block, that higher oils can be used to help prevent this from happening. I'm thinking as long as none of the other components specify 40 to properly work, that 50 may suit some applications.

Dealer in Hong Kong uses Mobil 1 0w40, he was busy so didn't ask if 50 is ok to use. ask another time.

Did call the Motul distributor and he said 5w40 or 10w40 for normal driving, and 15w50 for hard driving

Well 5w50 (dealer fill) or 15w50 (recommended by my japanese tuner shop) both worked very well for me. I do notice that I get less overheat warnings in summer with 15w50 (the dreaded "engine compartment fan failure" warning).
