How does that work? Do you raise it and leave it up only to find it "slams" down and hits the body of the car?

Zip tie rear wiper mod is the first mod any owner should do . Such a simple and discrete solution.

It only requires the wiper to pivot at the end of the arm with the wiper off the window. The aft end of the wiper blade is then over a painted surface. If the spring loaded arm is dropped then the blade end will scratch the paint. The wiper does not have to be raised very far.

I lift that sucker up and hold with one hand, clean and put it back down....I know I'd have a battle scar there if not from previous posters talking about there incident like this one....

The problem is the dealer's car wash jockey may carelessly leave it up, then let it fly when hit inadvertantly while wiping down the rear glass. Just do the zip tie for piece of mind. A few pennies saves hundreds in potential repainting costs as well as a couple grey hairs .

Edit.. You can have very good results using this method. Black can be a ***** with blend lines.. You end up having to repaint entire panels with clear..
I can now see the "white" below the paint. I am not sure if it is the primer or the metal. Either way, the scratches will snag your fingernail when you rub it across them.

I'll try to take a picture and post the results. It isn't pretty.

I had the same happen to me and thought it was the end....

Luckily, the local (and awesome) Porsche body shop shop fixed it without repainting. After that, I never let the blade rest in the raised position....

I never used my rear blades once and would recommend the rear wiper delete plug. Save weight and headaches while making the rear look cleaner.

When I owned my 996TT, one hard recoil slap of the rear wiper was all it took for me to acknowledge the potential damage it could cause on paint. From that point on, when I detailed my Black Turbo, I never let that "devil" touch anything and proactively held it off of the windshield at all times when drying.

Fair enough. How would you suggest that I mix the paint? How many parts thinner does it take? What typeof brush or application tool? Any suggestions are welcome.

I find the rear wiper especially useful here in northern California where it rains from November through May . Clears the way backing from a parking space or in traffic crawls. Even at highway speeds, there is some build up even with Rain -X. Why have an all conquering all weather AWD supercar , then take away a nice visibilty feature ?

Yet another reason why I love the GT2. No rear window wiper.

How many times do people really use the rear window wiper, especially in the warmer climates?

To me, it's completely useless, even in the rain.

I've used Langka on my Volvo with great results. It still looks like it's touched up, but a very clean flat touch up jpb. Following directions is key.

I'll note that on the Rennlist board I've read about owners getting art store air brushes. The photo of the completed job looks great. Link: Paint Chip repair on Rennlist

I agree with MKW it's one of those option once you start to use it you realize how nice it is. Esp on those damp nights and early mornings. But if your the Ricky Racer type I can see how you may want to eliminate the wiper entirely.
