Remembering car magazine's hot cars of the Past....

In 1968 my parents helped me buy a new (at the end of the model year) 1968 Corvette Stingray Coupe, new body style, Candy Apple Red with the 427 , 435 hp , 3 deuce carb engine, all stock from GM. It had 436 foot pounds of torque.
To this day I have never been in or driven a more powerful car. I got 6 MPG no matter how I drove but gas was $.40 per gallon so the gas mileage didnt matter.
The car cost me $5,335 out the door.
It was one heck of a rocketship!!

I bought a '90 300ZX 2+2 when they first came out in '89 and It was like being a rock star. Everyone was coming up and asking me about it. Then had a '91 TT and a '93 TT. Would have definitely bought a 4th 300ZX if they had just done something significant to improve it.
Bought an NSX instead.

Had a 1977 Pontiac Firebird whose 350 V8 produced a whopping 170 HP! Emissions controls killed many of the late 70's and early 80's "muscle" cars. Thank goodness for progress. We haven't seen horsepower wars like the current one since the late 60's. Let's enjoy it while it lasts!

I had a 1958 Corvette with triple carburetors. I don't remember who made the manifold but I came out to go to work one morning and the entire intake system had been stolen! Gee, it turned over on the starter motor aweful fast....
I also had an early 50's Porsche 356 that was a very fun car. But, generally always broken in some way or another as it was ancient when I had it. Sold it for more than I bought it for.
I had a 1958 Jaguar fixed head coupe, an SK140. The most beutiful car I ever owned; inside and out. It would short out the electrics if I drove by a wet sponge, I never did understand how the englishmen got them to work in thier weather? Great big wire wheels, and a friendly grin would always attract some feminine attention.
Then I had a Formula "C" Kieft, a Formula "B" Dulon, and a Formula "B" Chevron B9B. Fast enough to beat a lot of the early Formula "A" cars indifferently driven.
I had a Datsun (pre Nissan) 280ZX Turbo that was a "point and squirt" kind of car. Not a great handler but a real freeway javelin. Mrs. Cooper burned out a couple of turbo's as you were supposed to wait until they "warmed up"......not a chance!

Had a 1987 White T-type GN.
Loved the car and went mod crazy. By the time i sold it, the car had 750HP and all sorts of exterior and interior mods. One could say that is when I developed my Modaholism. I still miss the car today and wouldnt mind picking up a pristine GNX,
