Blew my motor! :(

I didn't realize proto did tunes on the stock motor with a 7500 rpm redline? Is this common? I heard of 7k and 7200 but I always heard these ranges put alot of additional stress on the motor.

To be honest with you, I have no idea what timing I should be at... but we are running 100% meth.
My car has 39K miles... and I don't commute in it very much. Most of the miles have been driven pretty hard whether it's our early am runs, or on the track. I definitely don't want this thread to be about tuner bashing... I went with Proto because they are generally well respected and many guys local to me have used their tune with great results. EPL was on the top of the list as well but there just weren't any EPL cars around here that I could see up close... Todd looked at the data I posted, and said to me "i don't see anything that needs to be changed", and since I'm not a tuner, nor do I know how to analyze all the data, it's hard for me to argue that.

No prob bro. I run my car much like you run yours, hard, with likely the exact same setup, but with 93oct and 100% meth. Definitely keep us posted on what you find. Some of us are very interested in what you find. Sorry again and Good Luck.

Thanks bro. To be honest with everyone, it's f*ckn embarrassing... I hope that my situation really does help others. I'll post what we find as we get into her... I don't want to speculate too much. The reason we thought it may be the oil pump is the way it all happened. There are endless possibilities right now...

It was confusing trying to convert from my excel file to post the numbers here. If I email it to you, would you look at it for me?

Man, I am sooooo sorry to hear this and you know I feel your pain. I have recently been down this road (although not as catastrophic, same end result). Call me to discuss as I can provide some insight and options that are out there. Don't let it get you down if possible!

thanks kato, i was planning to give you a call... dude, we had this conversation a few months ago when we were talking about our builds... i still can't believe this happened. talk to you soon.

It's sad to hear stuff like this...but your right Sharky. It's easy to get caught up with the HP numbers. You know this more than anybody.

The stress to (nearly) break parts could have been earlier (during a hard dyno pull for example), with normal engine operation taking it the rest of the way. I have had some motor shaft failures on my other machines fail that way, just normal operation then failure - but had been preceeded by high-stress (just took some time for the crack to grow).

damage may have already been done from multiple previous runs. Why would the oil pump be the problem? could be way to lean? I feel for you bro. Like KPG said your timing is way advanced.

Thats why i'm quite happy with how my car performs. Any more and i'll be doing rods and studs.

well also sorry to hear this but I blew my engine as well, I was at the track under minimal load at the time and it did exactly what yours did. the case was cracked and the crank broken (you can search the thread if you want it was last year)
anyway if the case is cracked that engine may not be rebuildable
the option I took was have Kevin at UMW get you a brand new GT2 crate engine and he will take yours in trade and part it out. this should be under 20k and you will have a new engine. you could easily go through way more than that on a rebuild
ultimately it depends on what you want to do with the car
also those of us who run these cars hard must remember they should be maintained like race cars not street cars. and yes wear and tear will take its toll, I have a new engine and have rebuild my transmission three times, but my car is full race. it gets Cup car care.
make this into something positive and move on!!!
