I think the S7 is a great car and has awesome backing from the Saleen team and they know how to treat customers with excellent service. The car is sexy as hell and I at some point in the near future I will purchase one.

"Saleen S7?"
It is a valid question........in the context of the CGT, Lambo, etc wouldn't the S7 be something an informed buyer today would, at least, explore?
I asked the same question over on Rennlist's CGT Board a month a half ago.
There is a fair amount of activity on that board however,
....... to this date, there are zero replies to the thread

edit, to answer your question, "bad timing". Saleen got in touch with Newtech very late (his car was ready, that's a month before the S7R participated at LeMans for the first time) and there just wasn't enough time to make things perfect for street use, although there has been an S7 with such brakes, and it has ran in Willow Springs (the S7R, not S7). I'll try to dig up some pictures if you want. Since then, Newtech has been concentrating more seriously on the truck market ... you can't R&D for ever ... and the truck market is more open to innovation than cars can be.

re-edit : pics
Race trim

And Show trim ... sorry for the bad pics ... old camera+low light = crap

FYI, this is the car that owned the Motorola Cup the season it participated, with Newtech Brakes ... Porsche always on top, I guess

that's awesome!!!

It's still a glorified kit car, Saleen assembles everything but manufactures nothing. An Ultima GTR with the right engine and setup will perform as well or better for 25% of the price.

Matt, what makes you say this? everything on the S7 has been engineered and designed by Saleen's team, and they build their own engine from their own blueprints...

Furthest thing from a kit car. I think you may be confusing this with the SCC diablo beast that is cranked to 908HP on a cobra chassis with a cloned diablo/mix fiberglass shell.

Interesting.........some friends went throught the Irvine facility, and that was not the impression they came away with (and it was a credible group).

My statement was a bit of heresay as its also from friends who went through the facility, although I wouldn't go out on a limb to argue for their credibility

Still, seeing the car in person, the build quality just doesn't compare to an Enzo or Carrera GT. Personally I would choose an Ultima + $300k over the Saleen all day long.

You guys all bring up good points.
However, I would not agree that it is a kit car. This is a much more limited production car than the Carrera GT, SLR, or a Lamborghini. I think they have only made 40 S7s in 2 years.

As for the Ultima comments...you are right it is a nice car. Too bad you can drive it on the road legally with that engine. You will run into all sorts of registration issues when you try to register the car. Does it come with a warranty? No. Where will you bring it to get repaired? Who knows? It does not come as a turn key car either. You need to assemble the engine, drivetrain, have exhaust made, etc.. This is truly a kit car that needs to be built.

The S7 would certainly attract more attention than the GT, depending on if that's what you want. Call me what you will, but if I spend $400k+ on a car, I think I want it to stand out in a crowd, look wild, and attract some attention at least.

Just my $.02, but one of the problems I have with the GT is that it is not very exotic looking when you compare it to cars like the S7, SLR, Enzo, Koen. CCR, etc..

why is everybody so concerned with what other people think when you drive it??? this is the wrong reason to purchase a super car. i agree you have to like the way it looks, but f*ck what everybody else thinks! LOL.
