What would make you not buy a 2004 996 TT with 75k Miles?

Interestingly, the one shown at auction with 74k miles went for $32,800. Could it be the same car being discussed in this thread? At a price point near the one listed there, the car could indeed be interesting.

40K for an '04 is certainly a great price, but at 75K miles, it better have an impeccable maint. history. Is it an X50 car? what are the options? Any mods? These are all things that are to be considered. The mileage would def scare a lot of people away, so if you're serious about it, do an extensive PPI on it. All that being said, there's many examples of 996TT's that have WELL OVER 100K miles on them and still going strong. Good luck with your decision.

Even on German and Swiss roads a turbo motor will not outlast 100,000 miles. US driving with more stop-and-go driving might be a little more stress on the engine and tranny.
$40k for the car seems high since the cost for a motor rebuild in just 25,000 miles will be substantial.

quite a few people with high miles cars on here that havent rebuilt their motors im not so sure the motor just stops at 100k. now if its been rode hard and put up Wet thats a different story could be a ticking time bomb but oil changes and proper maintence and this motor can last.

there was a MINT 51k mile '01 996tt that sold at a bmw dealership here in town for $34k! I'd hold off on this car unless they're willing to deal!

It just seems like a lot of miles. I haven't looked at it yet since it's 2 hours away from me. I know maintenance is key to reliability in higher mileage cars. At this time I have no idea how well it was maintained.

Sorry man, I call BS. A BMW dealership could turn a nice profit on a TT just by parking it on their lot OR they would have dealt it off to a Porsche dealership in the area, either way, they would make sure to get paid fair market value +++ . If the car was "MINT", it would have brought $6k to $12k more, even with 51k miles on it (which aren't a lot for an 01).

I'm in the hunt for a 996TT as well and am in a similiar situation. I'm considering the following:
2003 996TT w/ 68k miles (no navigation) overall the car has a clean carfax, but there are signs the car has been repainted. Also - the front of the car needs to be repainted as it has a "sandblasted" look to it.
Would this car be worth $30 considering the PPI goes well? Deal or No Deal?
