Rear Differential Trouble

Well this is the view od the diff taken apart.
The whole suspension piece sitting on a jack.
So much room in the engine compartment. I Can touch the back of the block.
THe other side of the diff with the Long Stub Axle Shaft removed.
Well, the axle shaft feels ok. so at least I'm learning something here.

Battlefield. Nothing like having a lot of jacks.
And this is my next suspect. Right up front of the TIP. Slight seepage can't be good.
TIP to DIff shaft without cover in place.
Same Shaft different view with the said seepage.

Pinion bearing? Before I took the diff out I used to hear some abnormal whining noise on decel & the bearing races looked very similar to yours, but after bearing & race replacement it was gone.So I would not rule out the diff bearings just yet

It seems like I have no play on the shaft. Also did you have to swap any shims or were the new bearings close enough? I've noticed that comparing to american cars the ring and pinion seem like a very precise match with almost no play.

I pressed the bearings off today, taking your advice(my hat is off to you sir), and I have to admit that although the races and conses seemed ok, it appears as one of the bearings spun on the carrier, which means they were obviously worn and would explain the nasty oil. Doesn't look bad but it did give me a hard enough time when reading the part number of off it. Seems I might've just caught it before a disaster.
Well, I made it to the warehouse today but seemed like everyone was in a mood to get out of there so I didn't want to rush things and decided to wait till monday with ordering all that stuff.
I did make it to Harbor Freight and lucked out on some good deals I'll need. Pullers, depth guages and a dial indicator setup were all on sale.

Wrenching today. I don't have to get up early tommorow so I'm going at it pretty hard.
I picked up the bearings today. All together the carrier bearings along with the long stub axle bearieng were about $200. I'm a bit concerned as one of the carrier bearings that they matched up at the warehouse was a *** instead of a TIMKEN but I decided to use it as Porsche seems to be happy using both brands in their difs.
Since one of the bearings spun, I used a dab of locktite when setting the cones. upon closer inspection of the races I could see that one of them must've gotten pretty hot at one point. I checked the pattern on the ring and pinion and everything looks good so far.
I still have to put the suspension pieces together and the brakes... I'll report after the first ride.

I pulled an allnighter yesterday. Got everything together. Finally took it for a ride today and the noise is still there. I'm loosing my mind with this issue. Pretty soon I'm gonna end up with a brand new car
