Very interesting... I bought a set of Protomotive intercoolers that had a thermal coating applied (not by Protomotive) and resulted in a claimed 6% drop in temps.

I don't believe anyone has any doubt that EVOMS is one of the top tuners.

The state of these motors is in constant change. Advantages come and go. There are really very few secrets amoung those in the know or should I say the secrets don't last very long. When a particular advantage is gained by anyone people immediately start looking.

My personal opinion regarding tuners/builders is the devil is in the details. The quality of the work and materials. You usually can look at the product and can tell a lot about an individual/firm. Are all the "little" procedures followed? Finally, there are options, can a tuner/builder offer the different options with a solid explanation as to why to go with a certain part/procedure and what are you really buying.

yllwturbo,

Thank you for the kind words. I have been fortunate to work with many of the top people/companies in the industry, TRG - Kevin Buckler, S Car Go - Rob King, EVOMS - Todd Zucone, Protomotive - Todd Knighten, 911 Design - Loren Beggs, ERP - Cary Elsinlohr, Performance Developments - Neil Harvey and Robert Linton from the East Coast. Now don't shoot me if I omitted anyone. Over time we have tried a lot of things with these motors, we have learned a lot ...... along with made a lot of mistakes.

Probably the biggest thing I have learned is not to be critical of anyone who tries something new. It is great to sit back and enjoy the attaboys when something turns out well. It is really depressing to be criticized when you try an idea and fail or the results are much less than anyone expected. Many times the seeds to new ideas are planted by someone other than he one who brought the idea to the general public. I believe it is important to make sure credit is given to all involved.

When my car appeared in the April 2004 edition of Excellence, we were at the cutting edge with approx. 700 hp. At the time I stated that my gaol was 1000 hp to which the author David Colman all but said I was crazy. Today we have running motors making approx 1200 hp. I have no doubt we will be seeing numbers in the area of 1400 to 1800 hp utilizing the Porsche case in the not so distant future.

It wasn't so long ago the Porsche CAN/AM monster motors were producing 1400/1500 hp. What I find very refreshing is unlike other motors where the art is pushed by large corporations and manufacturers .......... the 996/997 turbo platform is being pushed by many individuals and small companies who just love this motor and never cease to dream about it's potential.
