Try www.mauigokart.com

It appears they run two differnet Parilla classes in Maui. The Parilla, as I mention above, is a sprint kart. As a beginner, you'll have a lot more fun in a sprint kart as opposed to a shifter kart. Spend a year learning the lines of the track and how a kart handles. If you like it and want the added challenge of shifting, buy a shifter kart.

Find out what chassis' competitive racers are using at your home track. Different manufactuers chassis' handle, flex, and hook-up differently and some are better on some tracks while worse on others. Of course, you can fine tune the chassis by positioning weight, changing tire pressures, alignment, etc.

Someone mentioned the TM and Swedetech motors. I believe these are both shifter motors.

Ok, i went a drove a track magic cart with the 125cc Pirell (Sp) motor. Its not a shifter, push button stop and start. For me cart was extrememly fast, ran great. I guess its about 1 1/2 years old, comes with spare set of wheels and tires, some sprockets and stuff. Thsi seems to be the most popular cart according to the guys. Does 3500.00 sound like a decent deal?

If theres no classes available for rotax or easy karts which are the best to learn on, it is very possible to learn on shifters. The only dowside to shifters is that karting takes a lot of concentration when learning. There are many skills to be mastered that are very demanding such as proper braking, drafting, turn-ins and exits, proper lines, as well as doing this at 90+mph with other racers and your adrenaline soaring can be very difficult the first couple of times. Add shifting to this equation and you can definately confuse yourself or even distract yourself enough to end up against the tire walls. I highly recommend you get an instructor the first couple of times and take it one step at a time. Also, take the time to learn your kart. there are limitless possibilities of engine tuning, camber, caster, and toe settings as well as brake bias etc. that can affect handling and make the cart faster and easier to drive. Here are a couple of pics of my birel. Its a 125cc honda motor and i added a tach that gives me speed, revs, engine/transmission temps, as well as lap times. This is a great chassis and the engine is extremely reliable with the proper maintenace.

It's amazing how much fun a few thousand bucks can buy in a kart.

$3500 would be a little high in Northern California. Not sure about your location. If the kart is in good shape, $3,000 would be more reasonable. Find out how many hours are on the motor. Parilla motor's are good anywhere from 20-40 hours before a top-end rebuild.

If the kart has a Micron or similar tach, lap time, temp gauge, it should have recorded the total running hours. It should also have recorded max RPM's. If the kart has been run over 16,000 RPM's consistently, it may also be time for a rebuild. The motor's are designed for a 15,000 redline, but I typically gear mine to run at about 15,900 max.
