Just know that it's going to cost around $2,000-$3,000 for the entire ordeal for a lawyer.

$2-3k for a lawyer!!?!?!?! Are you kidding? I have hired my fair share of lawyers for traffic tickets and I can tell you it never runs over $150 for lawyer fee's -- the traffic fines are obviously in addition.

Maybe in Dallas it's different, but in LA a lawyer will run you a minimum of $250/hr, the better lawyers are $500/hr +.

I don't know of anything that takes just one hour to do regarding the legal system.

From what I have discussed with lawyers, it takes 5 to 6 certified documents to be presented to different judges/courts, etc. And it also requires a few visits to the courts to abolish the record from the systems.

I was quoted anywhere from 1800 to 3000 to have a lawyer basically get a ticket completely written off.

For all of that he could just pay his $700 ticket, and save himself money

I would never hire a lawyer to get rid of some regular speeding ticket. It would have to be for something that is going to get my license taken away or something like 40 over the limit.

Last time i hired a lawyer here in Dallas it cost around $150. For that fee, they took care of two citations: one for speeding -- 110mph in a 55mph (on the Dallas North Tollway) and also an illegal lane change (same ticket, two citations).

I never had to go to court, just pay the lawyer fee, pay the fines and complete an online defensive driving course. The tickets were dismissed and never appeared on my record.

I agree, if it is something that you can handle on your own (deferred adjudication), then do it yourself. I only hire a lawyer when the "normal guidelines" do not apply -- e.g. in Texas if you are over 25mph the posted limit you can not request deferred (but a lawyer can get it for you).
