Well and that CEL code I hadn't had in a year surely points to MAF. I really hope it's a bad MAF tmrw.

Angry

Okay this is really pissing me off...

New MAF didn't fix it. Unplugging battery and reconnecting didn't help.

The symptoms are somewhat erratic - sometimes driving okay for a block or 2, and then bucking and sputtering and idle surging. And toward the end of the day it would not even hold idle it just kept dying upon start up.

Gonna mess with it again later today. Gonna do a real pressure test with air compressor (should have done this earlier, I know).

If that doesn't find the problem, maybe thinking a cat is clogged? Gonna try to peak inside there if we can see.

This is such a pain in my *** because this is my daily driver and it's been down for a week.

How is your fuel pressure when this is happening? Clogged FPR is a possibility.

I talked to Tony yesterday and he was insistent on a system pressure test, not just visual. Should have done this first. The inlet pipe on the passenger turbo was disconnected. DOH.

Hey, at least I have the updated fuel pump now. (This is me trying to have a good attitude about this).

Lesson learned: Always do free/cheap/easy tests first - MAF, pressure test, battery reset, etc. Replace expensive and labor intensive parts later.

My mechanic did say it is strange that these alpha turbos dont have a lip where the inlet pipe connects like the factory and other turbos do which help it stay on. Wonder why. ?

Thanks for all the help guys.

Inlet pipe into the compessor or the pipe from the compressor to the IC?Are you using hose clamps or T-bolt clamps?

Good you've got the new pump.
It'll keep this from happening to you like it did to me in the middle of nowhere...

Yes, I agree. Even if it wasn't needed now, it will be good to know that has been updated.

If you had unplugged the MAF it would have run correctly wouldn't it? Just curious should I have to deal with this at some point

Not with a turbo hose off. If the MAF fails, you can disconnect it and the car will run well. But not with other problems.

Thanks Aroon. I was thinking about those big tips too. They look good!

Makes sense. Funny thing is I was damn close to getting a clutch kit and inlet piping kit (waiting for AMS to release their new one) to get installed at the same time as my GT2 slave. Oh well. Another lesson learned and insight gained.
