Trying to find used wheels (iforged essen, hre p40 p43, 360 forged mesh 10s) but everthing seems to be for 997tt in 20". Is anyone out there running this size on a 996tt? If so did they have issues, rubbing etc. I really like the look of big wheels but don't want to buy something used and have them arrive and not fit. Or if anyone has any kicking around in there garage they just haven't listed yet 19 or 20 inch that they would like to get rid of.

be mindful of the tires you'll end up using and there's a big difference in the 19's and 20's as to tire availability. many of us are using 19's (if it's primarily street use and are accepting of all the limitations of a 25 series rear tire) but i only know of justin in austin that's using the 20 inch wheels. here's a post of his car and wheels.

The car I got came w/ after market wheels on it and they are 20s. I have these tires, The Front are Ultrac - SESSANTA VREDESTEIN GIUGIARO 245/30 ZR 20
The Back are Pirreli PZERO NERO 295/25 ZR 20
I have 21mm spacers on the rear and after a few 1,000 miles of driving I have yet to have any problems.

 

I've attached the photos of mine. Fits perfect with the right offets from Iforged and only wears a little on the rear inner plastic when the car isn't on the ground. When its on the ground it clears without any rolling fenders or rubbing on the inside.

I have 245/30/20 and 315/25/20 Toyo Proxes

 

Indeed, I have HRE 20 inch wheels on my car and it required a decent amount of work to clearance the rear plastics. PM me and I can tell you the easiest way to do it. I also put my car on the earth(low to the ...), so I needed to make sure the offset would clear the fenders, which is does. Additionally, it requires a "japanese style" suspension(coilover) for the front due to the additional overall height of the tire.

Thanks for the info guys but I have 2 questions:
1.soundeffects your iforged wheels did you order them to fit your 996tt or did you buy them used and they came off a 997tt?
2.Justinn, love your hre p43 I am looking for that style right now, but do you know if they only make one offset for both 996tt and 997tt? As well as that info would be great as how how modded your plastics to fit. You mentioned you had changed the height of the car in the front for the oversized tires, did you raise it above factory specs? Want to sell hres for my hollow twists and cash?

The previous owner of my car had 20" Techart Formula mounted. They were 996tt specific from Techart but still rubbed everywhere. 2ndly they looked too big on the 996 in my opinion.

 

It has been a little over a year since I bought the HRE's. I would just give Boost Logic a call to find out what exact fitment they were through HRE(I did the ordering, but I cannot remember).

i do remember, I needed it to clear the fenders and to do that(and keep a 9 inch wheel in front), I had to change the suspension to a skinnier(JIC) type of coilover. The rear required me to reform the rear part of the plastic with a heat gun and a block of wood(so as not to burn your hands).

I said screw the rear plastics, it barely touches them, only when the wheel is up in the air for me. A little rub marks but who cares in my eyes, can't hear or feel, only see a little mark when the wheel is off. I'm a freak when it comes to this stuff and I didn't care about the rear. Somehow on the front I gotta away with stocks struts and H&R springs without any issues.

I did switch to GT2 coilovers with Moton adapters just because I wanted it slammed to the ground as well but notfor any rubbing issues in my case. My wheels were just made by Iforged for the 996tt, the owner of Iforged did 20's initially and it worked on his car so I did mine. As Justin has said before, if you don't lower the car a lot then the 20's will look a bit strange in the rear as they have a larger diameter than most 19" setups.

your best bet is a nice set of 19" wheels with a good set of tires...

to go from a standard 18" to a 20" wheel upsets the geometry of the suspension too much...

Why does a 20 inch wheel upset the suspension geometry? Offset, maybe, weight, maybe, but that holds true for ANY wheel. It has nothing to do with size. If the alignment tracks out untrue, then the alignment and ride height could affect it. Again, this holds true for lowering your car on ANY wheel.

To clarify, 20 inch wheels are perfectly fine on a 996TT taking into account the following.

If you like the look.
The weight does not differ much from factory(which are not exactly light)
Clearance of fender liners, and suspension

The reason the Iforged can work with the stock suspension on the front is most likely because the offset is more aggressive(towards the outside), and possibly the width. I believe my HRE's are 20X12 and 20X9 or 9.5

If you're going after looks 20's are fine but for driving I beg to differ. Why would you want to slow down something you paid for to go fast in. Drivabilty has to be harsh with 20's.
