Best deal on an ECU?

I see that at one point FVD offered a flash and filter for $1200. Best I've found is Vivid Racing flash at $1550. Are there any better prices out there? Ability to go back to stock is a must. I was spoiled with my last 2 cars getting a second-hand tuned ECU for around $500. I don't seem to find any tuned ECU's for sale for the 996 turbo.

The cheapest I know is Upsolute. I used them for years with excellent results
and no problems, for an essentially otherwise stock car:

http://www.upsolute.com/index.php?op...k=models&id=18

I am now using UMW.

I suggest you do your homework before choosing a flash for your ecu.

as for the ability to back to stock you will have to have your stock file saved to flash back to.

I've definitely done my homework for a few months. The only problem is any time a discussion is made about which chip is fastest, most reliable, best, etc. it becomes a war of opinions between people that own the chips. I don't really trust manufacturer's claims or dyno's either. My last chip for my 2001.5 S4 was a GIAC-X with a flashloader that I loved but they sort of priced themselves out of the discussion.

$1295 including a flashing cable. You are able to flash back to stock and very shortly will be able to switch between different programs.

You answered your own question and if your buying based on price as your main variable then you may be barking up the wrong tree... development and technology is not for free... not unless you steal it...
Show your car some respect- it deserves it.... do the right thing....
good luck,
markski

I would think that any of the R&D regarding these flashes, al least the features somebady with a stock-ish car is interested in, has been long paid for

I probably wouldn't make my decision based on price while modding a $50K engine. Don't spend $10K on a flash, but at the same time, does saving $1K on a flash that isn't as well reviewed really impact your life. Like most things, you get what you pay for. (Include expected end-user support in your value calculation as well.)

The support, custom tuning via datalogging, etc. does cost time and money...
I remember paying $4500 for a flash for 996tt... and you guys are complaining about $1500?

case in point- you get a $700 flash from XXX ... you run your car hard and the CEL comes on... what do you do? 1. Go to dealer and get wacked lets say $1500 for nothing... 2. call the company who sold you the cheap flash and get No support.... 3. Eventually throw out the cheap stuff and end up with a reputable tuner...
End result: your probably back at $4500 by the time your done... Ironically it could have been avoided the first time...
I see many cross over Audi, BMW, EVo guys mind boggled by the prices we pay... yet we the P car guys get freaked out when a flash for a Italian superar is like $5K... not all things are equal...
