Review: EPL K16 Flash
#31
Nice dyno Earl! I think that even if you had to convert that into AWHP on a mustang dyno, that would still be a solid 400+. Holds power all the way to redline as well! Probably due to the exhaust's better flow. Very smooth.
Would love to find out for myself, but when I came home my flash file was mysteriously gone from my EPL flash loading software.
After I get that little issue sorted out and the weather takes a turn for the better, I will beta test and report back.

Ahh thanks, the driver's side pipes are in. I have the passenger side going over the motor and down, then attached it to the most restrictive part of the system (diameter wise) so I could do a before and after on that one piece. My hunch is that the driver's side isn't bad, nor is the passenger side where it goes over the motor and down -its the part where the passenger side necks down and curves about a foot from the turbo. If that were true and you were on a budget, you could see most of the gains of these piping kits and only have to replace a foot of piping near the passenger turbo (and not have to move the motor). FWIW, the entire piping effort cost me a hair over $300 (mandrel bent 2.5" aluminum) in materials, but the labor was fairly involved.

Good work Earl
I've been under the impression that alot of the pipework is fine for regular turbos as even though the the diameter is reduced in some areas the cross sectional area is still the same. I know what you mean about that last foot before the turbo though

Great results! Looks like the flash is doing exactly what is designed to .
2WD Dynojet numbers below. Note that SAE overcorrects turbo cars at high altitude (density altitude was around 6000' at the time of the runs). A more appropriate, turbo-esque correction factor would put it around 450rwhp -uncorrected was in the low 400s. Mods are the EPL flash & a relatively quiet Remus exhaust. The shop couldn't get a tach signal so they gave me the pulls for half price. I ran the math and...
2500rpm=46.5mph
3000=55.7
3500=65
4000=74.4
4500=83.7
5000=93.1
5500=102.3
6000=111.6
6500=121
It looks as if its missing a bit of low-end, it may just be the altitude but I'm going to give it another boost leak check just in case.
Comment from the dyno guy: "whoever tuned this knew what he was doing" This is one of the smoothest 996TT dynos I've seen -just look at that plateau of power!
BlueRanger,
Definitely! Once I knock out the leak check I'll give ya a ring -thanks man.

So,
Finally got everything sorted out and flashed the car tonight. Thanks to the guys at EPL for the great customer service! The one "minor issue" I had was taken care of by Dave first thing Monday AM (how's that for prompt?), and the flash process itself was a breeze.
Thoughts on the software itself: Very nice! Electronic throttle lag is completely gone. Low speed drivability is noticeably improved. Car spools up to 1 bar early and holds boost to redline (spikes at 1.1). Cruising at 3500rpm in 3rd with no throttle, mashing the gas pedal got me from no boost to 1 bar instantaneously. Absolutely no delay whatsoever. Powerband feels exactly how it looks in the dyno. All in all an excellent piece of work!
Thanks to Tony and Dave at EPL. You have transformed the car, and have my highest recommendation!
