Tire Inflator w/Guage
Ok 6speeders, what is everyone using for tire inflator w/guage?
What Brand?
How Accurate?
Where did you get it?
Or should this be a 2 piece purchase, and if so what would you recommend.
Thanks,

I have two of these type devices, 1 a/c powered unit and a cigarette lighter d/c powered unit. Both have pressue gauges included with them that are "fairly" accurate. The problem with these units is the guage vibrates pretty good when in use which compromises the accuracy of the guage. They are great for adding pressure for low tires, however I always check with my separate guage and adjust accordingly. They won't hold up to big jobs or full flat tires or at least the one's I have won't and I need my air compressor for that.

All the cigarette powered inflators suck. They might give you just enough pressure to get to a gas station. AC inflators work much better. (Or go nuts a get a good size air compressor and then you can go out and buy air wrenches). Get a good dial reading seperate gauge.

Griot's sells an air chuck with a built-in digital gauge, but don't waste your money. It's accurate, but only if you put a fresh battery in every time you use it. If it sits for a couple of months, it still works, but the reading is way off.

Griots also sells a small inflator with gauge that plugs into the cigarette lighter. I have been using it for 2 years with very good results. It's well made and reasonably priced. If you go to their website, it is #10299 for $59.99. It's great to take to the track for re-inflating tires before the ride home. However, a separate tire gauge from a racing shop is probably more accurate for reading and setting tire pressure. I have the Longacre gauge that I bought from OG Racing.

If anyone does need to inflate a flat tire with one of those cigarette lighter units, it's possible if you jack the car up first and take the weight off of the tire. It's a bit of a pain, but it will let you fill up a stone dead tire with a cheap-o unit in an emergency. (Ask me how I know.)
