996 Turbo / GT2 Turbo discussion on previous model 2000-2005 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo and 911 GT2.

Love my 996TT, but I think I've had just about every common problem.

I just got mine with a folder full of stuff done to the car 90% of which was upgrades. What I have seen on the reciepts at under 39K miles was.....

Up / down thing on window drivers door. 36K miles

Spoiler warning light at 70 up and down not repaired??? From the records looks like its been from 25K

Exhasut header bolts two pulled. ( I think this has more to do with the 585 Hp the car is running. 29K miles

New clutch at 32k miles

AC condensor, 2 lines. Rechange at 32K miles

Battery at 39k

Two rear tires at 38K

Why do I not have a Cruise Control I have a interior lever but No componets in eng bay??? Was that a option on TT????.

I feel lucky I got the car I have wonted for 5 years with Mods I would have never been able to pay for if I had started the project myself. I still feel the Turbo is Bulletproof compared to other cars in its class. Except my my Supercharged NSX 98K only replaced Timming belt. Sorry guys had to give a plug to the other love of my life.

In California it's call the lemon law. Use and abuse it. Dealers pay attention when you mention it. But if you car is modded, they are going to blame everything on the mods, regardless of if they have anything to do with it (19" wheels made your fuel pump fail blah blah blah blah.)

03 with 57k miles. Only had a slave and accumulator and been modded over 600whp for last 10k miles. Sorry to hear JJ. Sounds like maybe you got one of the problem children? Maybe it's because the car sat? Did you buy it new? See,s like low miles for an 03?

I have to agree with Markski. Every power mod puts stress on parts that were initially intended for a specific power load. There is plenty of headroom for power increase, but you have to do it smartly and you have to acknowledge the fact that good parts cost more, period.

There's a trend now in the 996 community. The prices have come down to within reach of people who didn't previously have the money to buy them. Problem is, some haven't factored in the added cost to maintain and modify these cars. They hop on youtube or here and see all the high hp cars and think "I want that!!!"... A well sorted and properly modded car is a smart buy if you're planning to mod yours over time.

Clutches? Wear items..
Fuel pumps? I hate to say it, but with the ethanol in it, letting your car sit with that fuel in it is horrid on the fuel system... So - wear item!
MAFS? Reallys depends on your tune, or climate...Wear item.
Bearings in pulleys or steering/water pumps? Again... Don't let that car sit.

These cars were meant to be driven. You let them sit, you pay the price. 20K miles on a 7 year old car? Unless thats track miles, you're getting what you pay for... Drive it. Your car will thank you and your wallet. It is NOT a Ferrari. DRIVE IT!!

Mike, I can't DD the TT here. It just snows hard 6 months of the year and as we have a salt mine here, salt is cheap. My road after a storm looks like the dusty mess at the top of pikes peak. Many of us hibernators have other cars that we subject to the elements, but kudos to you for yours being a dd in the winter. I just can't do that. The P-Car to me is a special treat. I drive it on days that I don't take the Bike, or the S2000. I understand "hanger maintenance" from sitting, but some is just ludacris.
Cluch Slave/accumulators, Hydro Wing, Fuel Pumps... these are problems.
I'm on my second pump in 3 years and 2800 miles. I think it's fixed now, but driving it is when it blew. My point is that there are several weak points that get discussed very often and as such are proven weak points in design that we as a community should build solutions to.

Knocking on wood, I have had ZERO problem after 2.5 years of owning my car.

The only problem I had was the car was pulling right and fixed by a good alignment.

According to the Markski Law, it ain't a bad idea for me to stay under 700chp since I have a thin wallet.
