Love my 996TT, but I think I've had just about every common problem.

Had my car for about 20 months now and am working through the common problems as well:
1. Ignition switch (2x, DIY for the $20 switch change myself, failed again 2 months later, paid $575 to Porsche to install the full 997tt lock/switch and no problems now).
2. Headlights switch is going bad. Have to jiggle it on/off about 10 times for headlights to come on. Will buy the part for $80 and attempt DIY.
3. Just blew a boost hose. 10 year old, tuned car, I guess expected, but now appear to be having wastegate issues as it's spiking at 1.3-1.5bars. Also replaced DV's to evom black billets during this process as it was something I've been meaning to do for awhile.
Otherwise, it's been a fantastic and very fun, very very powerful and fast car to own. Can't really complain about these relatively little items on a almost decade old car with a sticker near $140k that is tuned and running about 525hp.
I've got 7 months left on an aftermarket warranty that came with the car when I bought it, but non-surprisingly, every single time I try to make a claim my "full comprehensive warranty" does not cover that item and hte only thing I've ever gotten was about $650 for 1/2 of the belt/tensioner maintenance job, which makes no sense since that is defiantely maintence, but I"m not complaining they paid out on it. They are refusing the headlight switch now, and refused the boost hose leak issue, but now that it might be wastegates that caused it, that is covered and would cover all related charges, so here's to hopeing the wastegates are the issue!

really the only problem I've had is the dam rear wing and my accumulator. all other problems came about from modding (MAF)could not figure out what is was so i replaced plugs, coil packs, turbos, reprogrammed , ic's dv. hoses and more what a great excuse to mod the hell outa my car. could it get any better... oh the maf problem was caused from using an oiled air filter..

Bottom line its the law of averages. Some people will get every problem, some will get no problems and say their car is as reliable as a Civic. IMO Porsche have always had some problems. Still its less expensive than a Ferrari and more expensive than japanese/domestic.
Like everything, we think its great while it works. The engine doesn't need expensive valve jobs, and doesn't leak oil. Other than that everything can fail. Whats great is you can almost double the power without the engine grenading. One the other hand its a complicated car with lots of things that can go wrong so sometimes it comes down to luck. The clutch system is crap and fails at a level no one driving a regular car would accept. Thing is, its not a regular car. What other 4s 2+2 cars are in the same league with better reliability/cost? Will it be the GTR? Its more expensive than a 996t and a mystery for the long term.
