hey guys,

im curious what kind of blunders you've had with your car ...


the first week i picked my car up, i thought it would be wise to top off all the fluids, and i ended up putting POWER STEERING FLUID instead of pentasoil because the guy at autozone told me it was the same thing lol..

long story short it ended up destroying my power steering/clutch reservoir and the master cylinder slave


i also thought that brake cleaner would clean all the dirt off of my calipers, but instead it took the clear coat off !

i also underestimated the the determination that my driveway would have to destroy my various front chin spoilers, and went through 3 already until i finally lifted the car to gt2 ride height (when i first had the car lowered, i was 3/4" lower up front and 1 1/4" in the rear compared to a stock gt2)

i remember the frustrations i had when all this stuff happened, now when i look back it just makes me

Well, I haven't had my car that long, but I once was on the side of a road and backed up to a fence to turn around. It was on a little hill and I thought I had the car in 1st - it was still in reverse and I gunned it to get up the hill. Luckily I had quick reflexes and stopped before I hit anything!

Backed up into a parking spot that had the concrete "stops", pinned into the asphalt with rebar. Turns out that one of the pins was just a little too high and somehow I ended up back onto that little piece of rebar, and it snagged the muffler to the point that I could not get the car off. After 10 minutes of trying all sorts of tricks, I was fortunate to have someone pull up in a very nice 5-series BMW that looked strong and healthy.

I asked him to lift the right rear of the car a smigg ... while I pulled the car our with the accelerator. To my surprise, he was willing. It worked! And the car was freed. This all happened at the site of one of my clients, and I was so grateful. Turned out this guy was there looking for a job, so I met his hiring manager and made a solid reference to his character and good samaritanship. Now, I am very careful if I ever back up into a parking space - I look for those little bastard exhaust catchers. I was lucky it didn't tear a hole in the mufflers, It did leave a dent, but no hole; besides I just recently replaced the exhaust with an EPG2 and the old, dented exhaust is in a box in my garage.

First, here in Quebec the fuel price can jump in one night by 10 to 15 cents a liter so...I was coming from work with my BMW at 11:30 at night and realize the price of fuel jump from 98 cents a liter to $1.12. But a garage very closed to my place is still at 98 cents But normally within a couple of hours they increase their price. Decided to get the TT out for refueling. Got to the fuel station and tried to refuel, got a big splash of fuel all over me and realized I cannot refuel the car. I remember reading on 6speed or Renntech about a fuse that blow and an intake valve stay closed... Got inside to the counter and ask the girl for a flashlight to look at the fuse box but not only she back up from me because of my smell but she didn't care about giving me a flashlight!!!! So I went back home, got onto the 6speed forum, did a search found the fuse E6 burnt and replace it. Went back to the same fuel station and successfully refuel the TT. Back home, after all that stress I realized, while I started the washing machine, that I saved less than 5 dollars.... Forrest Gump: Stupid is as stupid does.

well this was in days of yesteryear...........

just bought a 76 turbo (my 1st porsche)it was used but a very pretty blk over tan car.i had always been a corvette guy so about an hour after parking it in the gararge i deciced to check the oil ,wow it was low so i add a few quarts until a was full.(car was off) gee had no idea it was a dry sump car. then went for a short drive. after killing ever bug in town i relized this car has a dry sump.....scary but no harm was done except to my ego

Years ago in my 993 I thought I would be handy and do my own oil change. I wanted to go synthetic but went with a very light weight. Turns out my car had a few leaks that plugged up with the older heavy weight- after the oil change it drilled on the exhaust constantly.

I was washing my brand new (to me) turbo and the rear wiper slipped in my soapy hands, flipped upside down, and gouged a scratch in the paint.

I no longer have a rear wiper.

1. How about the old washing the car with the windshield wipers raised (off the window) and when you go to dry it, you open the front bonnet (hood) and the painted edge on the back of the hood makes contact with the wiper blades that were still in the raised position.

2. Forget for a fleeting second just how fast these cars are and fly past a cop car doing 30 over the speed limit.

THhis didn't happen to the Porsche, but to another car years back. I stopped at a car wash put in the money and grabbed the high pressure wand. I didn't realize that the pvc pipe that the wand sat in came with. When I pulled the trigger that pipe shot like a bullet and put a nice dent in my fender. I was not a happy camper.

My very first Porsche '78 SC. Decided to change the oil and unscrewed the plug under the engine dry sump (since that's were most american cars oil sump is) . Very little oil came out. Called my buddy who told me were the the plug to the oil tank was. The only problem was I had a Pep Boys 6 quart drain pan. As the 10 quarts of oil started to over flow the drain pan, I couldn't get the drain plug back in cuz the oil was still to hot. What a mess to clean up. I never ever got the driveway completely clean. I sold the house instead.

Thank god for Eric @ bumperplugs. Deleted my rear wiper a month ago.

About 5 years ago when I had the Turbo Tiptronic I decided to do some power runs... I taken Sharky's advice, drop into 1st gear on the Tip, handbrake full on, foot as hard on the brake pedal as possible, take her to 3.5k and launched her... well it felt like I wasn't moving but I actually was, wheels were spinning, PSM/ABS going mad and the car launched sideways and smashed the rear wheel of the kerb... very embarrassing moment, luckily car was still drivable.

Or

A large group of us mad Scots travel to the Nurburgring "Old Timers Event" Porsche hospitality every 2 years... it's a big weekend event with guests like Olaf Manthey, Walter Rohrl, etc, etc... we usually leave our cars on display in the centre of the GP Circuit on the Saturday and remove them the following day.

On the Saturday evening main Dinner/Dance event we all had a bit too much to drink and for some silly reason I kept my car keys in my Sporran (Kilts, ok... we are all in skirts)... well I only gone and lost them that evening!
I had no spare with me (first time ever) and my car was stranded in the middle of the circuit all on it's own
Eventually found the next day on the coach (driver was cleaning out coach) or I would have been stranded in Germany for some time... phew, thank you very much!!!
