Longevity
My car is at 55k now (bought at 48k) and the major service is being performed as we speak. Tim, my mechanic, pulled the plugs and said that they are the original Beru plugs that came from the factory in `02 and even now look clean enough to last for awhile longer (went to Bosch FR6LDC). Diverters are being swapped out even though they are 8 years old and hold 1.0bar of boost no problem. Rotors look factory as well (not completely sure though), and they are still within spec. Turbos look fairly clean as well. The only real issues that were identified were worn e-brake shoes and a worn tiptronic transmission mount, which is being replaced with the 997 turbo part.
There was a black `02 turbo tip exactly like mine at the shop with 150k miles on it. It was pretty dang clean for a 150k car. Tim said that the only "major" work that he has done to the car was a tranny rebuild at 140k, and that was likely a bit premature (because it looked like the car did ~50k with a broken trans mount).
He basically stated that if I don't drive like a demon (lol), I could make it to 100k without anything other than routine maint, and that the car should easily hold up well past that. Not bad for a 12 second all day long, all season DD, IMO.

THIS is why 911s are special. Try that in a ferrari or corvette.....
One question T2: no wear on teh clutch? I suppose ZERO drag race starts? most of us go through a clutch in 30K miles (albeit with a tune and flash, pushing at 100 extra ft./lb)

Ari,
At ~173,000 the engine was out to trace down a wire harness issue (turned out to be a simple chaff that was an easy fix) - in any event I wanted the tranny pulled to inspect the clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. We mic'd the clutch at that point and found it be 90% material left compared to a new factory - I think mine mic'd at 1.6mm and the factory new was 1.7mm - in either case it was within 0.1mm difference. We replaced the RMS, two bearings and put it back together - to me I wanted to see what a factory clutch could do over time. There were no stress cracks on the pressure plate or at the spring retainers in the clutch at that time.
FYI - dragging is not my gig - love hard launches but drag racing is just not for me - now a track with some uphills, downhills and some twisties...well that's another story. Also that clutch has seen bumper to bumper traffic 2+ hours a day for 3.5-4 years of it's life which can be equally hard on a clutch.
Maybe I am just lucky....maybe I'll just keep knocking on wood..

Nice work, T2!
Way back in 1992, when I started with the PCA and started doing DE days, my instructor, Bill Mitchell, had just over 300,000 miles on is 930 (grey market import) and had the original clutch assembly in it. He knew how to get his car around the track in a hurry, too!
I was getting worried that the 62,000 miles on my '01 996tt (arctic silver, too) was a high mileage girl, but you have shown me the light!
Thanks for the update!
Sincerely,

as i rapidly approach the century mark on my '03 as a DD i follow your updates with a relative lack of surprise, but no less admiration for your accomplishment. these cars are really built.
godspeed.
godspeed.

WOW!!.. thats amazing ... its so good to hear that they will last that long... now i may never have to get rid of it..
MAybe we need to start a list of cars with high mileage?
1. T2 - 350000
2. Nitti - 50000

OP just curious what your plans are for the car? You plan on keeping it as long as you can?

I'm at 45k and about to do an oil change again (I change it every 3k miles). Last time I did it, I noticed a few (about 5 or so small metal pieces in the filter so this time I will double check. Hope it doesn't get worse!) I hope we are blessed with a car like yours. That's an amazing achievement. German engineering ftw.

That is very awesome! I don't plan to sell mine either! I have 41k on the clock!
