Contemplating B&M SSK to 997 Shifter Move

I've currently got the B&M SSK on my new to me 01 TT and am still trying to get use to the notchy feel especially when cold. 1st and 2nd can be very slow to engage. Thinking of going to the OEM 997 shifter for smoother throws.

My question is the "tool" that comes with the 997 shifter to lock in or position the shifter. Would this work on the B&M shifter?

I might not understand what this is for...

Keith

Hi Keith,

Hope all is well and you dig out of the snow soon.

I know how you're feeling coming from your C4S, especially the 1-2 shift when cold. I think you should give yourself some time to get used to it before you do anything though. It took me a while to get used to the SSK and I almost regretted putting it in at first. However, after a while I began to love it and wouldn't think of going back. BTW, I believe the kit is the same as Porsche uses.

Also, if I recall correctly, the change isn't reversable. I seem to remember something had to get clipped/cut to install it making it difficult to replace the old one. I could be wrong though.

Some people have had good luck by having a professional adjust the setup and linkage, which solved the notchiness. I personally have the 997 shifter in my car and am perfectly happy. Very smooth and precise.

+1 think it has to do with set up. have got the AP kit which i believe to be more or less same as b&m. Mine works great cold and hot.

i made the switch from B&M SSK to the 997 Shifter and i love it...

i am sure i could have made some adjustment to the B&M but the 997 is silky smooth.

Keith,
You can borrow my stock shifter and positioning clip to mark the adjustments points as Rennsport-1 suggested. May be worth the time.
