Question Pedal Trouble (CM stge3 clutch/LWFW & evo gt2 slave convrsn)

Hey guys, got some clutch pedal issues. Did the following mods about 3000kms ago, no problems until now. May be a 10C difference change in weather. from 70s to 50s F, nothing extreme. Clutch broke in according to manufacturer's instructions. Checked clutch oil level both cold, hot, engine off, running. Same level at max line.

Clutch Master Stage 3 fiber tough clutch and LWFW.
EVOMS gt2 slave conversion kit.
  • On Cold start, clutch pedal resistance starts at about half the distance of normal. The first half is empty with bit of vibration.
  • no usual noise from LWFW at neutral idle
  • Shifting is not affected. No slippage. Appears to drive normal (didnt push it to redline though)
  • After about 10 miles of driving HWY, clutch pedal pressure returns to normal. Again, shifting is not affected. No slippage. Appears to drive normal (do push it to redline)
  • Post reuturn of normal pedal pressure: If the car is switched off and immediately switched on, LWFW noise is again below normal. Once car's driven in gear (for just several feet) and clutch disengaged, the LWFW Noise returns to normal.
  • As long as car's still warm, pedal remains normal.
Stumped...

Will take it into the shop parts were installed at next week. Welcome any suggestions in meantime. TIA.

Seems like air in the line, but it could be the GT2 conversion kit.

I have the GT2 kit with zero problems - nothing like you describe at all.

I would suggest the same as Mike and bleed it good.

Mike, didn't you have some problem with the fiber tough material on the clutch a while back?

Larry, No the clutch I had in the car was the kevlar surfaced clutch. It had a TON of chatter... some of it may well have been the crap OEM 996TT hydraulics and the lack of feel.

I now have the fibertuff on the clutch surface with the new setup on the transmission build.

I have the evo kit...had to bleed it a lot....a lot.

But, once set, not one issue. The indy did the work, so I cannot comment beyond that...

Not one issue in a LONG time.... I don't miss the accumulator. Good luck.

weird thing is past two days, no issue with the clutch pedal. Even at cold start. when I took it to my indy, he said to me with out the symptoms, it's difficult to check and to come back when the problem is more long standing.

His opinion is that it's likely not a fluid issue, because if it was, it wouldn't come and go. Plus the system worked flawless for 3000kms or so before an issue.

I think temperature is ruled out. I did let the car sit for nearly 2 weeks with out driving it... but that shouldn't matter.

The car sat undriven for nearly 2 weeks prior to the first occurance. The clutch pedal went soft for 6-7 times.

It's been a week and half since the last post and clutch has been working fine, I drive it everyday, 25 miles per day.

Tonight, after minor clutch slippage (due to pedal modulation) going up a steep hill in reverse the pedal went soft, 25% of full travel vs. 50% in previous experience. still shifts as normal. I bet by the time I drive it to the indy, the symptoms will have gone away.

if there was a leak, or air in the system, I'd think the symptoms wouldn't come and go like this. any ideas guys? thanks

ug... tried to go to work this morning and the clutch pedal went straight to the floor and stuck there. No leaks and fluid at max so it's probably either the master or the slave.

indy says it's not possible to diagnose with out replacing the parts which sounds odd and expensive to me. I should probably give evoms a call. Any comments would be appreciated. thanks.

i would start with a good bleed and see if there is any air in the system if not id say the master cylinder is bad the slave would be leaking if its bad i think pretty simple design on the slave side.
