GT 28's Info/ Advice

Just got my new toy. An 03 tt x50 with GT28's,60lb injectors, Proto Tune, Diverters, Proto Intake tract, Evoms air filter, Headers, Muffler,Greddy Profec 2, LWFW, Sachs stage 4. Stock FPR.
Car runs great and pulls strong at 1.2 bar. Have not gone higher at this point. Todds tune has the AFR's around the 12 range during acceleration according to the Brockway.
My question,With turbo technology changing almost every other month. Where do these turbos fit in the " Turbo Performance Ladder"compared to k24/18's, Alpha 28's ect that several of other board members are currently using.
Just trying to know where they fit in and what success people have had with them. Also what set up's and boost levels can be expected with these turbos. Already used to the power at 1.2 and looking for a little more.....

I will be using this car for a weekend driver. Looking for quick spool and max safe HP with stock block on race fuel . ( Arn't we all)

Thanks,

Ron

WHos car is that? I know most of the proto cars... are your turbos Gt28/K16 direct replacement? Or are they real gt28s...
Technology changes- I agree... but it doesn't mean it always works...
Certain turbos work well on specific cars... meanwhile on others they simply do not...
each tuner has his own way of doing things.. but boost for boost a 18g probably is in the same league as a real gt28. You probably have the 28s stuffed in a K16 housing.... thats what chokes up the car.... small hot housing....
good luck,
markski

Just check to see if you have factory headers. REAL GT28's won't bolt up to Porsche factory headers.

Mark, The car came from So Cal. The last owner had Autotalent do all the work. He provided me recipts for "GT 28's" . Todd provided 2 datalog tunes, one lean tune to pass smog and a 'More fuel tune" which I recently loaded into the car to bring the AFR's down to where they are now around 12's. It also was set up for low boost with the greddy at 1.2 bar and high on race fuel at 1.5. Never ran the high so far.

So If I have 28/16's, older style, how would "Real GT28's" compare to spool, and overall Hp?.
Thanks.

Thanks,
The direction I want is to stay with is quick spool. I actually have been following the billet K16's from AMS and they are very impressive for what I am looking for. Lots of torque down low and still pulls on top,

Also check for A28, quicker spool than stock k16 and more power than gt28. I got it for 2months now. Very good allround turbo.

Agreed. My A28s spool very quickly as well. But I must say those billet K16s are wicked impressive too!

I drove a GT700 car with those Gt28/k16 turbos and I was just not that impressed to be honest for what was supposedly 700hp.

The new billet k24s, whenever AMS releases some test info on them, could be very nasty too!

The old GT 28/K16 turbos had instant spool but died up top. The also did not make any more power after 1.3 bars.

Great road course turbo but you will get pulled in a highway roll on.

Mark, after getting under the car to look closer at the turbo hot side, I do not see any KKK insignia, just TIAL moulded into the housing right past where it bolts to the header collector. Also, they are water cooled with lines from the journals to the lower water necks. I was told they were Ball bearing journals.

Just tring to nail down exactly what I currently have.
Thanks for your help.

Sounds like they might be Tial Alpha 28s...
These spool as fast as Gt-28s but have more power up top.

Any othe way to I.D. these turbos. Do you know the inlet ands outlet size. I could measure with micrometer in MM. Any other typical markings. Is the water cooling journals typical on Alpha 28's, or more common in general of most aftermarket turbos.
Just want to learn.

Ron
