OT: M5 vs AMG E55 vs RS6
#61
Auto in the AMG is the other reason I did not pick it.
As for the RS6, I have seen a few and honestly, did not like the condition they were in. This M5 is absolutely mint. As for weather. We have gotten 2 feet of snow in one day, and the roads were clear the next day, so not so much an issue.

Gotcha. I am a huge fan of them mostly for the exclusivity, (only 860 came here to the states). I realize they are a b*tch to work on and hard to mod, but I can't explain it....I will likely have to try an E55 someday too.

the exclusivity doesn't bode well for maintenance and for a pseudo family car that would not have been good.
But few 4 door sedans get as much respect on the street than M cars. you can drive an RS6 and I will be in an M5 and people will be checking my car out, and won't give your audi a second look.
Seriously though, I think that finding an Audi in good shape is harder, because they are awd and driven hard in bad weather.

actually, I was messing with you. To those that know the RS6 gets respect. In fact I see way more AMG's than I do RS6 or M5's. In fact the dealer I have been visiting has not had M5 in a year, and then they got 3. 2 used ones and a new one. I think I would have been happy with an RS6 had I found one in top condition and with less than 40k miles. Good luck. All the ones I saw had between 70 and 100k miles.

We have a family friend that has 30k mile car and I'm hoping to have it in my garage this summer.

30k miles is hardly broken in. That is what I looked for. The M5 has 26k miles. I looked azt E39 M5's but I could not find any with less than 50k miles. 50 is not bad for an older car, but I don't want headaches for a few years.

Exactly. This car was owned by a... ahem...mature gentlemen. He had it for sale last year for a while and when he found out that I needed one, he took it off the market and said he'll hang on to it until I'm ready. I'm almost ready
