Weird, I thought some of the "Supra Builders" have some of the records with a 996TT now.

Yep. I'm not referring to big set ups like you anD I have. I actually have Tial built hta wheels In a gt35r. Im referring to stock 5 bar set up running entry level turbos combinations. No matter how you splice it will either take lots of boost or a miracle to beat a cheap $1000 18g upgrade. That's all I was referring to.
On another note. What you guys did with Justin the shop and epl will probably Not get duplicated in a long time
great job

I do agree on the fact that the 18Gs are the best bang for the buck. I almost did them myself. But back then the only person doing them (that I KNEW) was Proto and the tunes + 5bar + 18G with core was $10k. This was 2 years ago though.

If I woulda had k24s on my car to start I woulda done 18g no brainer, but since I had k16 I went with the alpha 28. Just need those supporting mods now which add up!

Man that is and and shows how far the Porsche aftermarket has come in recent years... thank God.

I had a long convo with Mike B., great guy. These turbos are good but with the right supporting mods they can be excellent. I will call tony@epl tomorrow to talk about the TCU since my car is short shifting. I would like to see it shift around 7250. I would love to see with a TCU upgrade what type of 60-130 times I run. I want to get that and race my friend Vinod again (in mexico of course) with his K24/18g at 1.2bar and see if there is a better outcome. If he is still next to me then I would have to regretably say that the 18g setup is a better alternative.

Personally I believe that shifting any higher than stock redline with your current setup you will be moving out of the Turbos efficiency range/out of the powerband.

As Todd said a few post back try starting your 60-130 runs at 30 and you'll have a significantly faster time.

Hey Vince,

Its good to see you finally acknowledge how good 18g's are. I don't mind doing a highway pull...my guess is, this time your car will still be about even to my car.

I still don't understand how though...
I am running 1.2 bar , you are running 1.4 bar
I am running 93 oct , you are running meth and 93 octane
I am flowing much lesser air than your GT28 turbos.

Either way , i think Tial GT28's are great street turbos , but not significantly superior like they were advertised. At least the real world data doesn't support that claim yet. These turbos are twice the cost of 18g's ...

I think k16 hybrids are the best turbo out there for street use for sub 500 WHP power levels.

I know. This year at the Texas Mile, I'm going to pull one of his plug wires.

I can't make much sense of that either. We will run once the streets clear up.

Bmoores- The transmission is different not the motor, most of the 6-speed guys are running 7200rpms or higher so I don't feel that I would be out of the efficiency range of the turbos esp. because the redline was set for stock k16's.

I'm aware the transmission is different. But if you do a little research this subject has been beaten to death in recent months. What i'm stating is fact its been proven time and time again on the board. Unless you are running a GT30 or larger there isn't much point in bringing the car past the factory redline. Many have found that shortshifting has actually netted better results.
