USP Motorsports E85 ethanol 996 goes 10.5 @ 146.65!!
2/21/2010, Palm Beach International Raceway, NSCRA Season opener.
Hey guys. As the title states, my E85 996 caught me by surprise with this one! I went to the track for a sport compact drag racing series that I run my S4 in, and brought the Porsche as a backup just because there's an extra space in my trailer, and ended up with some new records! I didn't make any drastic changes to the car, just a revised tune from Tony @ EPL. I haven't worked on this car in weeks, just threw the drag radials on and took it to the track! Still on a completely stock engine, K24/18G's @ 1.75 Bar, and our E85 ethanol fuel system conversion (700++ whp all day long)!
I believe that's a new K24/18G record, and possibly a new record for stock engine 996?!
Mod list:
K24/18G turbos (~1.75 bar)
USP Motorsports ethanol fuel system conversion (see bottom of post)
USP / EPL custom tune
USP Motorsports turbo inlet pipes (gauging interest for production)
USP Motorsports 3" race exhaust system- no cats (in development)\
USP Motorsports 3.5" intercoolers
USP Motorsports stainless steel brake lines
Evolution Motorsports V-Flow intake
APR R1 diverter valves
For those that can't wait, here's the video..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z6J9FOF3JSg
Some pics of the car and timeslip..
No fancy intercooler piping or unnecessary placebos .
On the drag radials after the track..
A quick shot of how it rolls on the street..
In front of my shop..
And now, in popular fashion, some excuses why it should have gone even faster
1. Outside temperature ~84 degrees F.
2. My good friend was driving, who weighs 30lbs more then me and doesn't really know this car well. I couldn't drive because I was racing my S4 in the same class. My friend, Brian Kirchberger, has made 9 second passes in his VW, but hasn't been down the track in years. As you can see in the video, he did not launch the car hard because he didn't want to break anything.
3. As stated by another member on this forum at the same track.. "driftbox showed there was a .7% incline. Meaning the track climbs up 9 feet from the start line to the 1320 mark"..
4. I took the car to the 1/8 mile track couple weeks ago and went 113.58 in the 1/8 so I know next time out I will go 148+ and low low 10's with me driving, as you can see he only went 110 on this pass.
5. 13mph headwind
As you all can see now.. it's not how much money you dump into the car.. its WHAT you put into the car.
For future reference: We have been swamped with inquiries regarding our E85 fuel system conversions, and unfortunately as of now we only do them in-house. HOWEVER, we are currently developing a complete conversion system that is going to be available to ship and install at you at your local PROFESSIONAL shop. We also offer round trip car transportation anywhere in the US for $1500 if you would like us to perform the work.
Also, this fuel system is not only for E85 ethanol conversions. It is really needed for any 996 looking to make over 700whp THE RIGHT WAY, race gas or ethanol.
Thanks for reading!

Awesome time making some wicked power with e85.
I'm curious though your car says its flex fuel does that mean it can handle the ethanol content shifts or is it like a switched car having a tune for gas and one for e85?

Chris, you have 180 more whp then me so don't post up unless you go 155+ or just buy me a plane ticket
Get to the track already I want to see that thing go 155, if so it will give me motivation to swap out my next to stock turbo's.

Completely stock? I have no idea, but I know you have a few more seconds to knock off to catch the fastest TT cars.
I hope you know I'm just ribbing you. Your numbers are very impressive.
