Club Racing Licence.

I am ready for the course, and to get my licence. Where do I start? SCCA?
I have a small amount of track experience, I want to get the nessessary paperwork to track my 996 by myself without an instructor.

Thanks
Shawn

Why don't you purchase a Formula Ford to race. Much more fun and ultimately less expensive.

Just my $0.02 worth...

There should be a ton of places in So. Fla that will allow you to track your car without a "license" and without an instructor. Check www.chinmotorsports.com. I've done some events with them and they are well run. If you go to one, ask around and you should be able to find several clubs/events that do not require an instructor. With Chin, you can go out with an instructor if you want, and then go out alone...

Good luck.

Once you have the proper level of experience the instructors will sign you off to run solo. Even with a race licence, some groups will want you to do a check ride with an instructor. Should you not pass the check ride you keep the instructor.

Should you still want a competition licence, I suggest the Panoz Race School at Sebring. They offer a 3 day beginner program with SCCA licencing.

I did Panoz at RA - great, but was horrified by the fact that they'd give an SCCA license to anyone. There were two guys in my course who both crashed their cars, had multiple offs and black flags, were slow, and still got their licenses. Still a great laugh of course.
