Truth or Fiction? Stay away from '01 996T

In the corvette world, they have "the rule of 4's" You stay away from most years ending in 4. 1964, 2004, etc.

Is this true with the '01 996T? I have found a VERY low mile (16k) '01 996T that I think I love. Heavily modded. But I have also found a high mile (58k) '02 Very heavy modded 996T. I am having the hardest time decide. Both AMAZING cars.

Any thoughts

Fiction. They are built just as solidly as any other 996.

They don't have gloveboxes and the front bumper have warts...but other than that, they are the same.

My first TT was a 2001 and that car was and still is, a reliable tank.

Go for the 2001

I've had my TT for a year and nothing but grins- done a few mods to enhance like exhaust/chip/shifter. Bullet proof car and rewarding to work on if you like to tinker.

Keep us posted and buy the one you like the most - also don't forget the PPI

Noob here. I don't want to bore you, but lets just say I've spent 1.5 yrs. just trying to decide what car to get (TT Viper, Z06, GT-R, 997). This is a "toy" for me. Anyways, I have FINALLY concluded, considering budget, goals, wants, etc that the 996TT should fit the bill nicely. Crazy thing, I've never even sat in a Porsche. I live in a small town.
What/Who do you suggest for a PPI? A dealer?

Early 01 cars came with bumper warts, No glovebox and no/Fugly cupholders. They basically have the 99-01 interior. I beleive later 01s camw with no warts? and hollow spoke wheels.

There was mild upgrade across the 996 line in 02 from which the TT benefited.

From a mechanical perspective they are identical and seem to be just a reliable.

I'd go for the low mile 01. I bought my 01 with 17k last year and loved the fact that it felt like a brand new car still vs. a higher miler.

Keep in mind that a lot of the car's parts and pieces were in circulation since the 97 boxster. Even more in 99 in the NA 996.

The "guts" are fairly bulletproof.

-1, bad bumper warts, no glove box, and clip on cup holders a negative. It worth a few thousand more to find an 02.

I bought my 01' last year. It is an awesome car. You should get 01' with low miles.

Thanks for help. Mostly what I hear are bumper warts and cup holders. Bumper doesn't matter to me cause the '01 has a Techart Bumper. Cup holders... oh well. I'll live with it. Still debating but I definitely like the low mileage of the '01. Thanks!

Just curiosity. I've owned three Corvettes and been in the 'world' for a long time and never heard of this. For the 2004, it makes no sense. Final year of the C5 and pretty bullet proof. What am I missing.

Oh, and personally I'd go for the '02. Miles don't bother me. I bought my 04 with 54K and I'm up to 67K in a little over a year. No problems or issues.
