Options for upgrading my K24/K26 Turbos
#16
Mark,
You realize that depending on what k26 wheel is used... the 20g wheel may actually be smaller. Right?
The k2670 (the most common) is a 38+lb compressor(most say close to 40lb)... almost unnoticeably smaller then a 20g wheel.
In my opinion, not a big enough upgrade to warrant the swap.

Also, you may know there are other billet wheels...
Im just offering options... I think it should come down to the owner who is cost conscious and you the tuner... Sure you can convert it even to a Gt30r.. but for how much?
BTW, one 6speed member just ran 121mph in a 1/4 on the very K26/24s ... considering all things equal I still think the 20g is a big improvement.
If the client can swing it I would say Tial 30s
best

They are manufactured by FVD, they call them "K24/K26 Racing Turbos" in the FVD website.

I have never seen a K26/24 ( BTW I had this very turbo)... run 135 mph or more... so dollar for dollar I think its a good option... most of those turbos run 128mph thats it.... Sure I agree there are better options but for a lot more...
Also, you may know there are other billet wheels...

The time he speaks of is mine at the same time my car ONLY has the turbos, 5 bar and exhaust + flash while the guy above has fuel and all the mods and I only ran at 1bar. Nevermind the fact I haven't been to the track in 3 years, going back next wed. I'm looking at tials myself.

My point is: it comes down to money... and that client appears to be cost conscious by asking what he can do to his K24s vs. "what else can I get".....
I suggested a mild option, and with due respect I have driven many times a full 20g set up and seen it run high 130s... that is why I think its a good cheap alternative if done right... No its probably not as strong as a Tial 30r... but then thats over $5K...
just sharing my opinion... no harm intended...

If an 18g car is doing 113 then its not healthy... if a car is doing 146 then its a tuner car on serious boost.... ( not that it matters)... However, we are talking about customers with reasonable set ups.... (exhaust, filter, ICs)...

I have those exact turbos from FVD and am watching this thread with interest....I trapped 122 consistently with a stock clutch (that had no business in the car with 575 hp) ... but id be surprised to ever trap 128. I suspect more changes are needed than just a simple turbo swap...

last friday at noon, i went out for a spirited drive in my car and along came two friends (2008 Audi RS6 V10 MTM 730HP, 2010 Lambo Gallardo LP560), i tried only with the LP560 from a roll on third gear 100KM/H, he had a passenger and i didn't, Temp. was 82+F first try he got the jump and he pulled away about a cars length but i was closing in on him, second run we got it right both started at the same time, and i pulled away instantly and kept widening the gap as i reached end of 4th gear.......didn't have enough time to try out with the RS6..............just trying to imagine how would it have been if i had the 20g's on
