Lightbulb Low Cost Complete Data Acquisition System

Guys:

Here is what I am up to. I am talking with the people at AimSport in Italy. I am trying to convince them to write a link to our car’s CAN bus. If they do this, you can have all the instrumentation you reasonably need without having to hardwire all the different sensors (at costs well over $15k), including 4 wheel speeds, rpm, gear, lat g, long g, yaw rate, throttle position, steering angle, and probably all of the engine parameters also, like oil temp, oil pressure, intake charge temp, boost (for turbos), water temp, etc., etc., etc.

The AimSport DAS costs about $2,000 and you get an extremely complete, fully instrumented DAS that has video capability. The system should apply to all 996’s (and Boxters) with PSM, not the GT-3’s or GT-2’s. The recommended system is the MXL Pista.

Here is the link to AimSport http://www.aim-sportline.com/

Sharky:

Their system (Innovate) is extremely limited and you have to install the sensors. This system should give you anything the ECU monitors on the engine, in addition to all of the driver inputs (the important stuff for monitoring driver performance). Huge difference.

Hi. I am interested. Can the data be recorded, downloaded
to a laptop and graphically be displayed? I would love to
either show an integrated graph of the G forces to approximate
a car course, and to be able to associate the data with any
point on the map.
Joe

Absolutely. Hit Aim's web site. If you want, download their software and I'll send you my actual data to look at.

If you want to see a minute portion of what the data can tell you, see this link.

I use the Mychron3 on my kart and the thing is awesome! Downloadable and everything. $2000 for my turbo sounds like the right number, but I don't race my tt, and as yet, have no upgrades. Maybe this summers PCA crowd can sway me to the 'dark side.'

I am very interested. For many of us, the best improvement we can do with our cars is our driving skill.
