Unhappy ECU map gone

Hello fellow Porsche owners. Just got my hands on my first 911 turbo. Drove a modified vr4 a few years ago and I knew I wanted a 911 and driving it back from Texas was even better than I expected. Well, except for the speeding ticket in Milano. Truly amazing vehicles. I was told the car is stock but since it was producing 1 bar, obviously it had been flashed. I got an error code telling me to go to the workshop at the same time that .6 bar was max boost. Ended up being a communication error. Rear wing reportedly not working but checked fine. Left shop and got another code for brake light switch which also checked fine. Had another a few days later...PSM that cleared. Last one was Friday and I haven't carried it back to dealership. I am unfamiliar with the car and I haven't had this problem on any other car. I sure do miss that extra boost. Anyone have any ideas to help inform me? Thanks Guys

Sounds to me like the car is in limp mode. Do you have a durametric to check and clear the trouble codes? If an error keeps coming up, there is most likely something wrong, expecially since it is going in limp mode. I do not know if unplugging the battery for 30 minutes or so clears codes, but it is worth a try (make sure you have your radio code BEFORE you do this!!!)

Yes, battery disconnection should clear a limp mode condition.

I took it to the dealer. Wouldn't the Porsche mechanic have noticed that it was in the limp mode? Guess I need to talk to the mechanic about it next time.

Agreed.

What did the dealer DO anyway? Perhaps reflash the DME for you?

That is a good question Ard. I do not know what he did. I know he reset the code and checked it out?? I had already made my mind up that I was going to use the battery disconnect to reset instead of paying them an hour labor to tell me it was a communication error. It had occurred to me that a Porsche mechanic would rather see a Porsche with factory maps, however, reflashing one would be a very ballsy move and would probably cause many customers to hop the counter so I dismissed it.

I have to round up my radio code. Haven't looked thru the owner's manual, yet. Hell, I haven't even regestered it yet. Other owner seems to be a helpful, stand-up guy. He wasn't aware of any problems.

Wrap up

Was, indeed in limp mode. Dealership missed it. Back to stock power but I lost the aftermarket tune. I will be getting another one.

Ah, Grasshopper- never underestimate the ignorance and hubris of a dealer.
