How does the remote start work on a 6 speed car?

 

Clutch switch is bypassed so that the car can start without clutch being pressed down. We also put in a remote start kill switch so that it can be fully turned off when the car is at a shop or valet (although I never let them drive it and hold on to the keys myself anyway).

 

Obviously the car has to be out of gear for this to work then. Just using handbrake for parking. Got it. Would work great for my garage on cold days here in Colorado.

Yes - the car can not be left in gear.

It is indeed perfect for those cold mornings.

As far as price goes. The cheapest place to buy the Viper is online and it will run you..
~350$ for Viper 5902 Alarm if you get it online (Retail is double that)
~25$ for DEI 556U module which holds the extra key inside for the remote start to work
~25% for DEI 528T module which is a timer relay module needed for the install on the 996
~Labor can run you 250$ and up depends on the shop that does it for you and how comfortable they are with doing this on a Porsche.

There are cheaper alternatives if you just wanted the remote start and not the 2-way paging capabilities etc.
