Carbon Fiber trim help

I think I would like to start adding carbon fiber trim to my interior. i am all black leather currently and I think the CF will make a nice update for my '04. I would most likely do the instrument cover, door trim, center console and nav/radio area.

Can you guys recommend a vendor for good fitting quality CF and give some tips on how difficult it is to change out trim pieces and do I need the trim tool that I saw on the Suncoast site.? I also want to know if the fit is fairly precise on the after market pieces. Thanks for the help.

While I think the look of the CF is great, I have found that the adhesive doesn't hold up well. Every Turbo I have looked at with CF, has problems. In particular, the vents and dash trim. The sun/heat seems to really take its toll. Keep in mind that most of the cars have less than 45K miles.

If you can spend the big $, get the actual part and replace the factory piece of plastic w/ CF.

If you want a great looking dash kit, then make sure the dash is cleaned really well. If you use armorall or anything like that, take rubbing alcohol and clean, clean, clean the parts that the pieces will be glued to.

You will need a hair dryer to make the pieces more flexible and stick to the contour of the dash. Good luck w/ either and take some pics before and after.

I did not realize that there was much gluing that needed to be done. I thought it was just snapped in place. How much gluing is needed? It sounds messy and greater possibility for poor fit issues. Is this particular to certain trim parts?
thanks,

There are 2 different types of CF dash pieces that we are talking about.
If you go to a sponsor here at 6speed, there is a few, then you will get the actual piece that snaps into the OEM place on the dash. The link w/ the dash all apart is for these kinds of applications.

If you just get a dash kit of made CF then you are using the OEM piece and over laying/gluing the CF piece to it.

2 completely different things I am talking about. Both have there place, the CF OEM replacement piece is very pricy! You can spend 4 or 5,000$ on a full kit of OEM replacement pieces or more depending on just what you want to replace.

The other way you will spend $200 give or take maybe $400 if you got every piece available, but it will glue onto the OEM piece in the car. I hope this helps.

you can use macarbon, rotec carbon or dbcarbon. do your research and really truly you can't go wrong with any of them. their price points vary though. if you do it right with oem pieces to freshen up your interior you'll end up spending 2-5k for the parts.

Thanks,HP. That is very clear. And thanks to all for the great input. I do want to do the part replacement method and was thinking of not going overboard. I like the Cf when it is in touches like I mentioned ( doors, center console, nav/radio area, and maybe instrument surround) not interested in speaker covers, seat trim, inside sill where seat memory is, I don't want to overdue it.
Has anyone bought from Suncoast or do you recommend the other sites?
Thanks again everyone, always helpful on 6speed.

No Problem, You can try to google Porsche Junk yards as well. LA Porsche is a good place and there is a place in OK City. They will be used so just know about that.
The sponsors here have great web sites to view the parts and you could get a great accent to your car for about $1,200 if you don't need the center console.

Does anyone know why DB Carbon is so much less than MA Carbon? Is the quality of DB product at a high level and is the finish and fit at a Porsche level. Has anyone used either vendor and had success with the fit and overall look.
thanks again,

Even though I am in the minority and believe CF is over done... Those pieces look awesome!

I used db carbon. Daniel is a pleasure to deal with and the parts match OEM wave. Prices are so affordable that you won't regret.
see some sample pics fro my car:
