'02 x50 with 51k
2,000 miles since last major service. Had DV's replaced at that time.

CEL came on while driving normally. Well, given the crew on this board, let's say while driving sedately. Just around town. Car continues to drive apparently normally. No hiccups, apparent loss of power or anything.

Figured it was a good time to invest in a durametric. Showed up today, and here is what it says:

P0492 fault code 208 - secondary air system bank 2
P0491 fault code 80 - secondary airs system bank 1

Thoughts? Something to do with the DV's? A leak perhaps? Recommended course of action?

Thanks in advance!

Can be related to your secondary air pump which normally start for about 30 seconds to send air into your catalytic converter for immediate efficiency. You should hear it starting... If it is working this code can be associated to a leak. See pictures....

Thanks guys. Good info. Do you happen to have a diagram showing where the secondary air pump is? I know I know... Give an inch and he takes a yard. :-)

Follow up. I also cleared the codes while I was in there. If they do not reappear can I consider it an anomaly? I am assuming that if there is indeed a problem it will throw a CEL again correct?

If the pump is not starting it can be a fuse and this fuse is located on the relay support #2 which is located beside the ecu behind left rear passenger seat..... May be I'm overdoing it but it is always good to know....

check if the diverter valves hold vacuum. one or both are bad. if only one is, change both anyways.
