Help: Huge coolant leak - lines on top of motor?

Expansion tank replacement
Brought my car in for suspension install and noticed a bit of coolant leaking, sure enough I have a crack in my expansion tank as well. At least the car will already be apart to help with install. she is 10 years old and starting to show a bit of wear. The dimming mirror died last week as well.

Sorry for bringing this thread alive again, but seemed sensible. Have had exactly the same issue as the OP. However, I rebonded in situ, but after 2 months the insert is leaking coolant again.
Only option is to remove and weld.
Question is, can this piece be removed in situ? Seems like the OP managed to do this through the actuator hole, which seems possible.
Have attached pic of mine, you can see where the coolant is leaking where there is the orange colour in the middle of the pic.
Really appreciate any help.

Add me to the list! I have only had this car for three weeks and it's one thing after another! As well engineered as this car is I can't believe they glued in the coolant fittings! Friday night was the first time I have ever had to be "flat bedded" home! My first foreign car has not been a good experience! I just JB welded the fitting on the passenger side under the throttle plate. I am now staring at it and reading this thread thinking I should do the "pin" mod to all the fittings since I am this far. Love this car but this sucks!

Also, if you get a chance, log your issue with NHTSA. They have an investigation started on Porsche coolant fittings, which may result in a recall. You can find the specific complaint here:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...ct/results.cfm
Use this number in the "Action item" box. PE13009
Let's get this made into a recall!

I can confirm (as the OP) that this can be done w/o dropping the motor or taking other stuff off (other than the alternator.) It is VERY tight though and you will need an excellent set of tools. I don't remember which ones but one of two of the bolts/nuts in the back are very difficult to get to w/o odd shaped tools. I don't remember if I had to grind or bend a wrench or anything like that. So it is possible but I don't know if removing other things won't be faster/easier overall.

I'm all done! Eight fittings total "pinned"! Learned a lot about this platform in a week.. Lol! I'm back on the road and getting new rims installed tomorrow. Might be time for some turbos!!!
EDIT: I had 3 fittings on water pump, 4 on the top of the engine and 1 on the power steering pump.

Just addressed this issue. hard welded fittings for the OEM glued inserts water cooling system. there's 7 welds total, in 3 different locations, 6 of which require new alum inserts to replace stock glued ones. 2 of those locations are in photo attached on floor, the last is behind the alternator - OEM 90 degree insert. this part is alum so can be welded.
This is the 100% solution. If you're going to drop the motor, make sure you do this fix. Over time the pressed on glued fittings to the water manifold will fail.

Vanta,
You have just had your first Porsche Experience. I've own one version or another for 30 years. While they are an affordable super car, they are not cheap to keep. Best of luck.
